In the study, Hulda neatly gathered the signed divorce papers.
After leaving the place she once called home, she didn't head straight back to the Jade Mountain Villa—her current residence. Instead, she went directly to the sanatorium to see Conrad.
Inside the VIP ward, a nurse was currently trying to coax the older man into taking his medication.
The stubborn old man flat-out refused, crossing his arms defiantly.
Seeing Hulda walk in, the nurse exhaled a massive sigh of relief, looking at her like a savior. "Ms. Atherton, thank goodness you're here. Mr. Atherton refuses to take his pills. Please talk some sense into him."
Hulda stepped inside, noticing Brandon's absence. "Is Brandon not here?"
Conrad scoffed. "Hmph. Brandon is busy all day, unlike some people."
She knew he was just grumbling because she hadn't visited him in a couple of days.
"Conrad, I've been organizing your manuscripts and research notes from the past few years. I'm returning to the institute next week. As your favorite pupil, I can't exactly embarrass you." She smiled, taking the medication from the nurse's hands.
Looking at the handful of pills, she felt a wave of sympathy. It was a lot to swallow, let alone doing it three times a day.
Conrad kept his face locked in a scowl. "Who said you're my favorite? You're the most annoying one!"
"Yes, yes, of course!" Hulda nodded agreeably, bringing the pills to his mouth as if coaxing a toddler. "Take your medicine first, then you can yell at me all you want."
His brows furrowed in pure resistance, but he obediently opened his mouth and swallowed the pills with a sip of water.
"Oh my, it really does take Ms. Atherton to get through to him! Next time he refuses, I'm calling you straight away," the nurse beamed, gathering the empty cup and pillbox.
Conrad glared at her. "Why would you call her? I'm not a child. I know how to take my medicine."
"Of course, sir." The nurse chuckled and slipped out of the room, leaving the mentor and student alone.
Hulda sat in the chair next to his bed, hesitating to speak.
