Ever since Abby Corbett arrived at the archery range, Caspian Sterling seemed to lose all interest in shooting.
His expression remained dark, every arrow he loosed flying into the target like a violent release of pent-up frustration.
Hulda Atherton couldn't be bothered to figure out what was suddenly wrong with the man. He had always been overly temperamental anyway.
Once Caspian emptied his quiver, she walked over to retrieve the arrows.
"Are you going to keep playing?" she asked.
If he wanted to continue, she would wait. If not, she was going to grab lunch with Abby.
Caspian glared down at Hulda, opening his mouth as if to say something, but ultimately spitting out two cold words: "I'm done."
Hulda raised an eyebrow. "Alright then. We're going to get food."
With that, she grabbed Abby's arm and walked out of the archery range without a second glance.
Caspian hadn't expected the woman to walk away so cleanly. He let out a dark, breathless laugh, his eyes locking intensely onto the hand Hulda was using to pull Abby along.
Dylan jogged over, wiping sweat from his forehead. "Boss, I've already rented out the entire horseback riding arena for this afternoon. Don't worry, we still have another chance."
Caspian pulled his gaze away, flashing Dylan a completely hollow smile. "Why would I be worried? What kind of chance do I need?"
Dylan was speechless.
The man threw his bow to the side, turned on his heel, and strode away.
Watching his boss's retreating figure, Dylan let out a long sigh.
Right, boss. Keep denying it...
