Sylvie stared at the divorce papers, her hand trembling slightly as she took them. It was impossible to tell what was going through her mind.
"Please make sure these get into his hands. Thank you." With that, Hulda turned on her heel and walked away. She felt an unprecedented sense of relief, followed closely by a faint, lingering melancholy.
Just like that, she had completely severed her seven-year marriage.
She had permanently walked away from the home she had lived in for seven years...
She figured Sylvie was probably the one person who wanted this divorce to happen the most. There was no doubt she'd make sure Herbert saw those papers.
Stepping out of the villa's gates, Hulda stood by the curb waiting for the car she had just hailed.
Before her ride arrived, Callie appeared, struggling up the street with her arms laden with heavy grocery bags.
Seeing Hulda standing outside the gate, Callie's eyes lit up. "You're back!"
Assuming Hulda had finally returned home, Callie practically sprinted over, abandoning her exhaustion. "What are you doing standing out here? Come on, let's go inside."
Ever since Hulda had moved out, Callie's job had become a nightmare.
Not only did she have to wake up early to prep breakfast, but she also had to handle the strict schedule of dropping off and picking up Miles from school. Any spare moment she had was spent grocery shopping, immediately followed by cooking dinner. She was running on a non-stop, grueling loop.
When Hulda lived there, Callie only had to worry about lunch and dinner. And since lunch was usually just the two of them, the workload had been minimal. Hulda had even helped with dinner, giving Callie plenty of personal downtime.
But now, the relentless schedule left her with zero time for herself.
