He watched Daphne bounce over to Everett like a giddy schoolgirl, her eyes practically overflowing with adoration.
"What the hell? You've got to be kidding me," Gavin muttered, nearly spitting out his beer.
It hit him then...
Daphne definitely had a thing for Everett.
But...
If his memory served him right, wasn't Everett in love with Melanie?
Gavin scratched the back of his head. Just as Daphne reached Everett, she suddenly looked as if she remembered something incredibly important and sprinted up the stairs.
Gavin's mouth twitched. He looked over at Everett with a wry smile.
Daphne was Melanie's best friend, which meant both he and Everett had known her for a while.
Not that they ran in the same circles or knew her intimately.
In his mind, Daphne was best known as the former wild child who ran with a rough crowd, and who now owned the Eclipse Noir Club—a venue staffed entirely by male hosts.
Going from a delinquent to a business owner was certainly a step up.
Still, Gavin felt that a woman like Daphne wasn't exactly the type most men would fall for.
They probably wouldn't even consider her for a casual fling.
It wasn't that he looked down on women with a rough past.
It was just that Daphne severely lacked a feminine touch.
She practically lived in oversized t-shirts and jeans, carrying herself with all the grace of a hardened brawler.
Gavin figured it was largely due to her personality and years of ingrained habits.
Melanie, for example, spent plenty of time with Daphne and also wore jeans and t-shirts on occasion.
But Melanie was exactly the type of woman men adored, especially the elite.
She was stunning, brilliant, and radiated sheer, effortless class.
Which was exactly why Everett stood zero chance of ever winning Melanie over.
Gavin wasn't surprised that Everett was settling for his second choice. After all, there were plenty of fish in the sea; why get hung up on a hopeless crush?
But he was deeply shocked that Everett had set his sights on a tomboy like Daphne.
