Everett heavily emphasized the words "in private."
At the same time, he cast a sideways glance at Preston, who was standing by Melanie's desk.
His meaning was crystal clear to both of them.
Everett wanted to have this lunch alone with Melanie, completely uninterrupted by Preston.
Melanie shot Preston a casual glance before agreeing to Everett's request.
"Sure! You pick the place."
Just like that, Preston was left alone in the office.
Looking out the window, he watched Melanie and Everett walk out of the building together, a deep furrow forming between his sharp brows.
Everett drove Melanie to a Western restaurant two blocks away from the Royce Group.
She was a bit surprised, wondering what he needed to discuss that required such a formal setting.
In truth, Everett wasn't a fan of Western food himself.
He just mistakenly assumed Melanie liked it.
This place wasn't as pricey as the spot she had chosen before, but it still possessed an elegant, classy vibe.
Perhaps because of its slightly tucked-away location, or maybe lunch hours were just slow, the restaurant was practically empty.
So, instead of getting a private room, they just took a table in the main dining area.
"What do you want to eat?"
Everett asked, taking the initiative.
"I'm fine with anything, you can just order."
Her nonchalant attitude made his heart sink.
He noticed that whenever they were alone, she always acted this way.
It was obvious she only cared about whatever business he wanted to discuss; the food was completely irrelevant.
Everett ordered two identical meals, and Melanie didn't raise any objections.
Before their food arrived, she got straight to the point.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about in private?"
Seeing how eager she was to cut to the chase, Everett let out a heavy sigh.
