Leila's smug grin froze as the security team abruptly surrounded her instead.
"W-Wait a minute, Minister Halevy... No, why are you kicking me out? What did I do wrong? Hey, wait, let go of me... Minister Halevy? Minister Halevy!"
Her frantic shrieks faded into the distance until she was completely gone.
Leila had been unceremoniously tossed out of the venue just like that.
Melanie watched the entire spectacle in stunned silence, her long eyelashes fluttering in disbelief.
Lilian turned back to her, offering another incredibly warm smile.
"I have no idea how someone like her managed to slip in. I promise it won't happen again."
Melanie was speechless.
She honestly didn't know what to say, so she simply offered a polite smile in return.
Nearby, Reginald and Dominic exchanged bewildered glances.
Neither man could comprehend why the Minister was treating Melanie with such deference.
From Melanie's reaction, it was painfully obvious that the two women didn't know each other at all.
Yet Lilian was acting as if they were old, dear friends.
Was it truly just because Lilian liked the necklace?
Dominic's gaze drifted back to Melanie's neckline.
Now that he really looked at it, that necklace was blindingly brilliant, reflecting light from every angle.
Dominic frowned.
Logically speaking, if those were natural stones, the piece would be worth a staggering fortune.
But there was no way it was real.
Because Preston Whitmore could never afford something like that.
But if it was a fake, how could a connoisseur like Lilian not see through it?
Dominic scratched his head, a deep sense of unease settling into his bones.
"Ms. Royce... oh, excuse me, Ms. Royce..."
"Minister Halevy, please, just call me Melanie."
Lilian looked at her, her eyes sparkling with genuine interest.
"Let's go over there and have a proper chat, shall we?"
"I'd love to!"
And just like that, Melanie walked away by Lilian's side, leaving Dominic and Reginald completely in the dust.
Reginald shot Dominic a dark, icy glare, let out a harsh scoff, and stormed off in the opposite direction.
Left standing there entirely alone, Dominic was gripped by a sudden, sinking feeling.
Had he just managed to piss off both Vice Director Thorne and Minister Halevy in a single night?
