Forced to look up at him, Linda's face was drenched in terrified tears.
For a split second, she thought she was already dead, imagining her severed head dangling from his casual grip.
"Mr. Sterling, I... I was wrong... I know I messed up..."
Her voice trembled uncontrollably as her whole body violently shook.
Shawn flashed a predatory grin.
"Where did you go wrong?"
"I... I shouldn't have dodged..."
Before the words left her mouth, the freezing steel of the butterfly knife pressed against her pale cheek.
Linda let out another blood-curdling scream.
Shawn's grin vanished, replaced by sheer annoyance.
"Look at you. You really don't have a clue... How did I end up with such a stupid secretary? No wonder I haven't been in the mood to sleep with you lately."
Linda flushed, caught between humiliation and paralyzing fear.
Weirdly enough, the threat of losing his sexual interest terrified her even more than the blade against her skin.
"Let me educate you... The virus we developed four years ago was a complete failure. That's why we shut the project down."
"And I've already had my people look into it—Melanie synthesized that antibody entirely on her own."
"If you ever dare to badmouth my Angel without proof again, I'll skin your face alive. How does that sound? Hahaha."
Shawn abruptly pulled the knife away and stood up. His chilling laughter cut off instantly, looking incredibly bored.
Linda remained slumped on the floor, pale as a ghost.
It finally clicked...
He hadn't played that sick, twisted game of target practice for fun. He had nearly killed her purely because she dared to insult Melanie Royce.
She was dragged through hell...
All because of Melanie!
Linda gritted her teeth so hard her jaw ached.
What the hell was so great about that woman?!
