She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 841

Daphne felt like she was crawling out of her skin. The embarrassment was so suffocating she couldn't even bring herself to meet Everett's eyes.

The memory of last night was absolute insanity. She was still half-convinced it had been a wild, feverish nightmare. But the lingering physical soreness and the blood on her sheets were undeniable proof.

She couldn't lie to herself. Last night, she had slept with Everett.

She had only intended to keep him company and have a few drinks. But they had both downed way too much, especially Everett. Knowing she couldn't just let him pass out on the bar, she had hauled him up to her third-floor apartment, the two of them stumbling and leaning heavily on each other the whole way up.

Her plan was simple: be the good guy, let him have the bed, and she'd take the sofa downstairs. But the second she tried to dump him onto the mattress, he had grabbed her, pulling her down with him.

Now, Daphne fully understood the danger of alcohol.

She knew Everett was blackout drunk and had mistaken her for Melanie. Even through her own buzz, she had been entirely lucid when he whispered Melanie's name in the dark.

At first, she had fought him. She had pushed against his chest. But for some inexplicable reason, she eventually stopped. She let him kiss her. She let him strip off her clothes. In the end, she had surrendered to it entirely.

When she woke up the next morning, her brain had short-circuited.

Why did she let it happen? She knew he didn't love her. His heart belonged entirely to Melanie. The only reason he had touched her was because he was projecting his fantasies onto her in a drunken stupor.

Now, minutes were ticking by in agonizing silence. Daphne had a pretty good idea of what he wanted to say, but his inability to get the words out was making her feel like she was sitting on a bed of nails.

Unable to take the torture any longer, she finally broke the silence.

"Listen... about last night..."

"Did I... did I do something to you last night?" Everett blurted out simultaneously, cutting straight to the chase.
