Instead...
Melanie's flawless execution had entirely dismantled his plans. Not only did he fail to prove his factory's exclusivity, but he also became the ultimate collateral damage in her war against Leila.
Now that the Royce Group had its own fertilizer subsidiary, and had spectacularly proven its efficacy through the test results...
Who in their right mind would ever pay a premium for Apex Organics' product?!
Julian didn't even bother saying goodbye. He bolted from the testing facility in an absolute panic, looking like a soldier fleeing a lost war.
While everyone else was reeling from the sheer brilliance of Melanie's strategic mind, Dominic was practically stumbling backward, completely at a loss.
He wasn't panicking because Leila had lost the bet.
He was panicking because he was sitting on a massive stockpile of wildly expensive Type-L Bio-Fertilizer, currently rotting away in the Lockridge Group's warehouses.
His original plan had been simple: even if the Lockridge family didn't use it, he could flip it for a massive profit, maybe even start a bidding war among the major agricultural firms.
But now...
Just as Dominic's thoughts spiraled into chaos, Melanie publicly announced the pricing for Royce Organic Fertilizers' new Type-X Bio-Fertilizer.
It was priced at exactly one-third of the cost of the Type-L.
Dominic's knees buckled. He nearly collapsed on the spot.
"It's over... it's all over..."
He fumbled for his phone, desperate to find someone, anyone, who could help him offload the massive inventory. Suddenly, the device rang.
Dominic's hand trembled so violently that the phone slipped and clattered to the floor.
It didn't break.
The screen faced upward, displaying the caller ID:
Holden Lockridge.
Soon, a chorus of ringing phones filled the room, a mix of media outlets and industry calls.
Everett's phone buzzed too.
"Yes, yes, I understand, Nathaniel."
Whether he was answering the call or hanging up, Everett couldn't suppress the grin spreading across his face.
He never imagined that a battle that seemed entirely unwinnable could be flipped so beautifully by Melanie.
"Melanie, your father just called me... He said the orders for Royce Organic Fertilizers are blowing up... He said you did an incredible job!"
Melanie simply offered a faint smile at Everett's words.
Let alone the fact that she had personally isolated the Core Bio-Strain from the soil of the abandoned plantations.
Trying to read Preston's mind by staring into those captivating eyes felt utterly futile.
Even knowing that he was the man behind Stellaris, and that he was 'Mutt', the boy she had unknowingly helped four years ago.
She still felt like he was a total enigma.
"Shouldn't we throw a celebration dinner tonight?"
Melanie blinked, surprised by the suggestion.
She realized he was trying to lift her spirits.
"That's a great idea, I'm all for it."
Everett chimed in eagerly.
Then he paused. A celebration dinner didn't really have anything to do with him, considering he hadn't lifted a finger to help.
"Yeah, we definitely need to celebrate... I already have a place in mind."
Melanie turned her attention toward the main entrance, raising her voice.
"Leila, where are you rushing off to? A bet is a bet... isn't it time you paid up?"
