She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 807

"Where the hell have you been?"

Back at the Royce Group headquarters, Nathaniel was tearing into Melanie.

"How could you, the CEO, not be here when a crisis of this magnitude hits the company?"

"How big of a crisis is it really? It's just some fertilizer," Melanie muttered under her breath, keeping her head down.

"What do you mean 'just some fertilizer'? Do you have any idea what the industry is saying? Rumor has it that not only are we incapable of growing the Arctic Burdock Root anymore, but none of our other medicinal herbs have the same potency either!"

Seeing how furious her father was, Melanie instantly knew this was 100% Dominic's doing.

It was true that Apex Organics had cut off their supply of the Type-L Bio-Fertilizer, and news of that had spread fast.

But aside from the Arctic Burdock Root, it didn't impact the growth of any other medicinal plants on their farms.

Clearly, Dominic was deliberately spreading malicious rumors, trying to blow the negative impact out of proportion.

This was undoubtedly his revenge for her choosing Stellaris PharmaTech over his company.

What a petty jerk...

Just thinking about the fact that she had once been married to a man like that gave Melanie goosebumps.

"So where exactly did you run off to? Did you actually go out and find a solution?" Nathaniel demanded, his face tight with anger.

Melanie obviously couldn't tell him that she was privately synthesizing her own organic fertilizer, so she lied smoothly.

"I went to the Eclipse Noir Club..."

Before she could even finish, Nathaniel slammed his hand hard onto the desk.

"Absurd!"

Standing off to the side like a piece of background furniture, Everett saw how furious Nathaniel was getting and immediately chimed in.

"Mr. Royce, please don't be angry. Melanie... I'm sure she didn't mean it."

"What do you mean she didn't mean it? The fertilizer crisis isn't even resolved, and she sneaks off to a nightclub in the middle of the workday! I swear, she's trying to put me in an early grave!"

After yelling in pure fury, Nathaniel broke into a violent coughing fit.

Everett hurried over to pour him a cup of hot tea.

"Melanie... just apologize to Mr. Royce."

Everett kept shooting frantic glances at Melanie.

Pfft!

Melanie couldn't hold back a laugh.

"What a cheesy magic trick."

"Do you not like it?"

A flicker of genuine frustration crossed Preston's eyes.

Gabriel had taught him this trick, swearing it was the perfect way to cheer Melanie up.

She just smiled, not saying she liked it, but definitely not saying she hated it either.

The trick itself was undeniably cheesy, but the fact that Preston had deliberately learned it just to make her smile meant everything.

It worked perfectly. The gloom hanging over her instantly vanished.

Melanie reached out and accepted the Lychee Spritz and the rose.

"Assistant Whitmore..."

Suddenly, Everett's voice cut through the moment.
