"...What?"
Daphne tilted her head, completely unable to track Shawn's unhinged logic.
Hadn't he literally just said on the phone that he wanted to court Melanie?
If he wasn't trying to pursue her, why the hell was he sending her gifts?
And why force her to take them with threats?
Daphne decided the man was an absolute lunatic. She pursed her lips, turned her back, and pulled out her phone, intending to text some old contacts from her underworld days to come provide backup and get her through the night.
Halfway through typing her message, a blade suddenly pierced straight through the center of her phone.
Daphne shrieked. Her wide, terrified eyes reflected Shawn's angelic, innocent face.
He was watching her, smiling brightly, his eyes crinkling at the corners. His other hand was still gently swirling the whiskey over ice in his glass.
The two male hosts beside him had turned completely pale, paralyzed with shock.
The blade that had just pinned Daphne's phone was the very same butterfly knife Shawn had been playing with moments ago.
Daphne knew when she was outmatched.
But after being repeatedly threatened, provoked, and having her business hijacked by this smug punk, she had reached her limit.
"Son of a bitch, I might die here tonight, but I'm gonna make sure you feel it!"
Cursing violently, she rolled up her sleeves and lunged forward, ready to tear Shawn apart.
Just then, the front doors swung open.
"Daphne!"
Melanie walked in, radiating cheerful energy, holding a massive shopping bag high in the air.
"I brought you some goodies!"
Every eye in the room instantly snapped toward her.
Melanie was still wearing her gala outfit—an impeccably tailored, elegant white V-neck gown that hugged her stunning curves.
Draped heavily over her shoulders was a thick wool suit jacket.
Preston's jacket.
Preston walked in right behind her, stepping into the club.
There were only two of them.
But the sheer, suffocating authority rolling off the couple was heavier than the combined presence of every thug in the room.
"If I recall correctly, these belong to me... In fact, you literally had to call and beg me to take them. Did you forget?"
Shawn ground his teeth silently at the provocation.
"Melanie, what are you doing? I can't take this!"
Daphne nudged Melanie's arm.
Melanie spoke to Daphne, but her eyes remained locked in a dead stare with Shawn.
"Take them, cash them out, and give the money to your staff as compensation for dealing with a psycho."
Daphne instantly caught on and stopped arguing.
Shawn was now sitting completely alone in the booth.
The moment Melanie and Preston had walked in, the two hosts scrambled out of the way, hiding behind Preston.
Shawn set his glass down and looked up at Melanie.
His gaze was freezing and ruthless.
But his voice was a pathetic, wounded whine.
"Angel, do you really have to break my heart like this?"
