Apologies

As the heated exchange continued, King Markus’s imposing presence commanded immediate

attention. He turned his piercing gaze towards Alpha Carter, his voice resonating with authority.

“Alpha Carter,” King Markus began, his tone firm, “this is precisely why I prohibited Alice from

visiting Stormheart Pack. I was aware that Azriel had found his second chance mate.”

Alpha Carter’s face contorted with disbelief. “That’s a lie!” he shouted; desperation evident in his voice. “Azriel is just trying to avoid the Council’s decision!”

Azriel stepped forward, his eyes blazing with determination. “The mark on my mate’s neck says

otherwise,” he declared, his voice unwavering.

Alpha Carter continued to argue, his voice rising in a fervor of accusations and denials. “Foul play! This is all foul play! I don’t believe it!”

King Markus’s patience snapped, and he shouted, “Enough!” The command in his voice silenced everyone. “Azriel not only has a second chance mate, but he also has a biological son who is the

heir to his pack.”

The revelation left Alpha Carter momentarily speechless. “Why were we not informed?” he

demanded, his voice trembling with indignation.

Azriel’s response was swift and filled with righteous fury. “Because this is no one’s business but my own,” he shouted back. “It’s personal. The Council should not confuse the overall werewolf issues

by mingling in the personal affairs of the pack where their intervention is not needed or required.”

The weight of Azriel’s words hung heavily in the air. The assembled warriors and pack members

watched in rapt silence, the tension palpable. King Markus, maintaining his authoritative stance,

nodded in agreement with Azriel.

“Alpha Carter,” King Markus said, his voice calmer but still commanding, “you must understand that

matters of the heart and pack leadership are deeply personal. Azriel’s actions are in accordance with the laws and traditions that govern our kind. His mate and son are now integral parts of his

pack and life. Plus, I don’t recall any Alpha or wolf asking for permission from the Council or anyone else before marking their mate. Don’t overstep your authority.”

Alpha Carter, though still simmering with resentment, seemed to finally grasp the gravity of the situation. His shoulders sagged slightly as he conceded, “I understand, Your Majesty. But please, show mercy to my daughter, Alice. She has loved Azriel for so long, and the shock of this revelation might be too much for her.”

Azriel, though stern, showed a flicker of empathy. “I understand the pain of unrequited love,” he

said. “But my loyalty lies with my mate and my son now, and she needs to face the consequences for her actions. How would you react if the roles were reversed and someone would come inside your pack and slap your Luna?”

As the tension simmered down, King Markus turned to Azriel, his expression stern yet expectant. “What punishment do you have in mind for Alice, Alpha Azriel?”

Azriel met the king’s gaze with determination. “She must apologize in front of the entire pack to my mate, Lora, and take an oath that she will never spread lies or attempt to harm my mate or son. If she breaks this oath, she will be thrown into the royal dungeon.”

Alpha Carter paled at the severity of the punishment, but he nodded in reluctant agreement. “Very well,” he said, his voice strained. “Alice will comply.”

Azriel turned to Alpha Carter, his eyes cold and unyielding. “Only you are allowed inside the pack to witness the apology and collect your daughter. No one else from your entourage will step foot on

my territory.”

Alpha Carter nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. Azriel then mind links Sky,

instructing him to prepare Alice for the apology event. The message was clear: this was a moment

of reckoning.

All four of them-Azriel, King Markus, Alpha Carter, and James-made their way back to the pack. The tension in the air was palpable, the weight of the forthcoming confrontation heavy on their minds. As they approached the pack’s central area, Azriel could see his pack members gathering, curiosity and concern etched on their faces.

Soon enough, Alice is brought from the dungeon, escorted by Sky and two other warriors. She looked disheveled and frightened, her eyes darting around as she took in the gathered pack members. The weight of her actions seemed to press down on her, and her usual arrogance was replaced by a palpable fear.

Azriel stepped forward, his voice commanding as he addressed the pack. “My fellow pack members, today we gather to witness an important moment. Alice Carter has wronged my mate, Lora, and by extension, she has wronged this pack. She will now offer her apology and take an oath to ensure that such actions are never repeated.”

“Mate?!” Alice whispered in shock as she looked at the woman of yesterday in disbelief.

He turned to Alice, his gaze steely. “Alice, step forward.”

Trembling, Alice did as she was told, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. She glanced at her father, seeking some form of support, but Alpha Carter’s stern expression offered none.

Alice’s voice quivered as she spoke. “I… I apologize to you. I was wrong to spread lies and to try to

come between you and Azriel. I swear on my honor that I will never again attempt to harm you or your son, nor will I spread any more falsehoods. If I break this oath, I accept the punishment of

being thrown into the royal dungeon.”

Lora stood beside Azriel, her presence a calming force. She nodded, acknowledging Alice’s words,

though her expression remained guarded.

Azriel turned to the pack. “You have all heard the apology and the oath. Let this be a lesson to all

that deceit and malice will not be tolerated in Stormheart Pack.”

Alpha Carter stepped forward, his expression one of reluctant acceptance. “I will take my daughter

now,” he said, his voice low.

“But father!!!” Alice tried to challenge the situation, but was silenced by her father.

Azriel nodded. “You may take her. But remember, any breach of this oath will be met with the

harshest consequences.”

With that, the tension began to ease, the crowd dispersing slowly. Alice, still trembling, was led away by her father, her punishment a stark reminder of the consequences of her actions.

Azriel, standing tall with Lora by his side, felt a sense of justice served. This was a new beginning for them, one where their bond was stronger and their path forward clear.

“Azriel, don’t be rude and introduce me to your mate,” they suddenly heard a voice behind them and when they turned, Elora whispered in surprise, “Your Highness!”
