he hours had stretched endlessly, each one marked by the ticking of the clock on the wall and the soft, even breathing of the little girl who lay unconscious on the bed. Markus paced the room, his phone in hand, while Kaia sat nearby, her eyes never leaving the fragile child who was sti unconscious on the bed. They were both exhausted, their nerves frayed from the tension and uncertainty of the situation.

Finally, the silence was broken by a soft ping from Markus’s phone. He glanced at the screen and then looked over at Kaia. “They’re here,” he said quietly, referring to Dana and Tim.

Kaia nodded, her heart both relieved and heavy. Moments later, there was a single knock at the door. Markus moved quickly to open it, and in stepped Dana and Tim, their expressions a mixture of concern and readiness.

Both Dana and Tim looked around the room, their senses on high alert as they took in the surroundings. The tension in their posture softened slightly when they saw Markus and Kaia, but the gravity of the situation kept them from fully relaxing. After a brief exchange of greetings, Dana’s eyes landed on the small figure lying on the bed.

“This is she?” Dana asked, her voice hushed with a mix of awe and sorrow.

“Yes,” Kaia confirmed, stepping aside to give them a clearer view. “She’s been unconscious since yesterday, after everything that happened. She’s alive, but… I think the trauma and shock were too much for her small and malnourished body to handle.”

Dana approached the bed slowly, her eyes filled with a motherly tenderness as she took in the sight of the little girl. “She looks so pale,” Dana murmured, reaching out to gently caress the child’s cheek with trembling fingers. The emotion in her touch was palpable, and Kaia’s heart ached for the woman who had longed for a child of her own.

Tim, standing beside Dana, sniffed the air cautiously before his eyes widened in disbelief. “I can sense… her… wolf?” he asked, his voice filled with shock.

Markus nodded, his expression still showing traces of his own astonishment. “Yes, even for us, it was a shock. It’s incredibly rare for a child to have a wolf spirit at such a young age. I’ve read about exceptional circumstances where this can happen, but those cases are extremely rare. In all my years, I’ve never met anyone like her personally.”

Dana’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she continued to stroke the girl’s cheek. “Poor thing,” she whispered, her voice breaking slightly. “Are you sure about this? About us taking her in?”

Kaia stepped closer, her voice gentle but firm. “Yes, if you and Tim agree, of course. We

understand this is a huge responsibility. Practically, you’ll become parents overnight, and we know that won’t be easy, especially considering the short notice. But… she would be lucky to have you

two.”

Dana’s eyes filled with tears, her emotions overflowing. “Are you joking? We’re the lucky ones,” she said, her voice thick with gratitude. “We knew, with me being a vampire, that it would be impossible for us to have a baby of our own. The opportunity to care for her… it’s unreal. A gift!

Markus nodded, but his expression remained serious. “You need to understand that taking her in brings with it significant danger. Her abilities are special, and because of that, many will be hunting her, so you will need extra care and efforts from your side. This won’t be easy, it’s not like adopting a normal pup. You’ll be putting yourselves in harm’s way if anyone at any time senses her true identity. The cover story is that you and Tim decide to adopt an orphan pup because you can’t have one on your own, and you find one that needs family as she lost her parents in a rogue attack.

Tim placed a hand on Dana’s shoulder, grounding her as he looked between Markus and Kaia. “We understand the risks,” he said, his voice steady. “But we’re willing to take them. She needs a family, and we’re ready to be that for her, no matter what.”
