Chosen Mates-1

After their passionate moment calmed down, Markus leaned his forehead against Kaia’s, holding her tightly in his arms. Both of them gradually regained their breaths, their hearts still pounding in unison while their bodies were burning with desire. They sat in silence for a while, savoring the closeness and the quiet after the storm of emotions.

Finally, Markus spoke, his voice low but firm. “You deserve a good spanking for the stunt you pulled yesterday.”

Kaia flushed, trying to articulate a response. “I told you…”

He cut her off gently but sternly. “You have so little faith in me that at the first sign of trouble, you

run away? You really hurt me, baby. I understand that you’re scared, but I need someone next to

me who can stick with me through good and bad, not run at the first sign of trouble.”

Kaia felt her cheeks burning with shame as tears filled her eyes. She lowered her gaze, unable to

meet his intense stare. But Markus didn’t have it. He gently grabbed her chin, forcing her to look

into his eyes.

“Oh, baby girl,” he said softly, “I’m not here to punish you or make you feel bad. I want you to

understand that my decision has already been made. I chose you and I want you to choose me as

well. I have tried taking it slow for the past week, but it seems that I did not convinced you.”

Kaia’s heart stopped in emotion, her voice trembling as she replied, “But what about the Royal

Courtship, the pre-selection tests, …your mother?”

Markus smiled at her, his eyes filled with warmth and determination. “Have some faith in me, baby

girl. There is no pre-selection or Royal Courtship.”

She looked at him in shock. “But how? The Queen…”

“The Queen should mind her own business and, because where there is a will, there is always a

way. And my will is to be with you.”

Kaia’s eyes widened, disbelief mingling with hope. “But… how did you manage to avoid the courtship?”

Markus leaned back slightly, still holding her close. “I confronted my mother and the Council. It turns out, they broke the ancient rules by manipulating the process. I exposed their actions and declared the courtship invalid. Now, I have thirty days to choose my mate, … and I’ve chosen you… if you have me.”

Tears of relief and joy welled up in Kaia’s eyes. “You did all that… for me?”

“For us. I need to warn you that I am a greedy man and once I set my mine into something … or/

someone, there is no turning back,” Markus corrected gently. “I won’t let anyone or anything come

between us. I can feel that we are meant to be together, and I will fight for that with everything I have. But, what I want from you is to do the same, Kaia. I want you to fight for us as well. The road that I propose will not be an easy one and is not for the weak spirits, but I have full confidence in

you that you can overcome anything.”

Kaia felt a wave of emotions crash over her. She reached up, cupping Markus’s face in her hands, her thumb brushing over his cheek. “You know how scared I am, Markus. I’m so sorry for doubting

you. It is just…so hard to believe that someone like you could want someone like me”

He leaned into her touch, his eyes softening. “You are perfect the way you are, and I love you, Kaia, he confessed, his voice filled with emotion. “Actually, I’ve harbored a crush on you for a long time

Kaia’s eyes widened in shock. “What?”

Markus nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. “It took all my willpower to stay away from you. Especially since you were my best friend’s younger sister, plus the age difference between us. I was so disappointed when I discovered you weren’t my fated mate. And you broke my heart when you tried to kill yourself.”

Kaia’s eyes filled with tears, and she started to cry. Markus’s expression turned to panic. “What happened?” he asked, his voice urgent. “Why are you crying?”
