“Exactly.” Beckett was happy, too. “The acid rain may have stopped, but the water level is rising way too fast. We have no idea how much longer these mountain shelters can hold out.”

Autumn replied, “We’ll take it one day at a time. Besides, sandstorms and tornadoes aren’t exactly good weather for traveling.”

This time, Autumn headed out with Beckett.

Leonel wanted to come too, but she turned him down.

Her reason was simple. He was too weak.

Leonel couldn’t even argue with that.

Before leaving, Autumn went to see David and asked him to make her a batch of emergency rations.

He mixed dried meat, dried vegetables, nuts, and rolled oats with peanut butter, then shaped the mixture into small, bite-sized energy balls.

These were emergency rations meant to restore energy quickly.

One bite was enough to keep her going, and she could eat them without interrupting her work.

The moment David heard Autumn was heading out again, he put aside everything he was working on, tied on his apron, and hurried off to the kitchen.

Besides the energy balls, David also packed plenty of nutritious boxed meals for her. He grilled meat pies, made buns, and prepared a little bit of everything.

By the time he handed everything over, it was a huge pile.

Autumn waved her hand and stored it all in her storage space before checking over her weapons and gear.

Still worried, David kept reminding her, “If you can win, then fight. If you can’t, run. Don’t forget you have your storage space. If things get really bad, just hide inside…”

Autumn waved him off. “Okay, okay, I get it. Stop nagging me. You’ve said it 18 times already. Just focus on dating Kayla. If you two want to get married, then get married. If you want kids, have kids. I’ve already got everything ready for the baby anyway. That’s it. I’m leaving!” She walked away without looking back.

Behind her, David laughed and cursed playfully, “You little brat. Now that you’re all grown up, you don’t listen to me anymore. You’re even bossing me around.”

Beckett had also made full preparations, but unlike Autumn, he packed mostly equipment instead of food.

“Here, take all of this.” Beckett pointed at the pile of equipment on the ground. “I suspect there’s something underneath the shipyard, too. If we pass by there, we’ll search the area.”
