Chapter 65 A General on His Knees

Finished

Steven’s eyes were eerily calm. The weariness hidden within them seemed even deeper than Wyatt’s own.

“No.”

“You-” Wyatt’s eyes flared.

This kid was impervious to reason–and completely unafraid of him.

“Let me be clear. I’m not asking for your opinion. You don’t have a choice.”

Steven returned his glare with one just as cold.

“And let me be clear. This is our choice. Nobody can force us.”

The two men stood locked in a silent confrontation.

Steven didn’t flinch, even though the man across from him was a Celestial Army lieutenant general.

He refused to join the Celestial Army for two reasons: first, the risk of his secret being discovered; and second, because he needed to retrace the path of his previous life and save the brothers who had died for him.

Inside the house, the old man sat quietly, sensing everything happening in the courtyard. His expression was perfectly serene.

A flash of genuine anger crossed Wyatt’s face.

A crushing wave of pressure slammed down onto Steven’s body.

“I told you this isn’t a negotiation! Bringing her to the Celestial Army is your only option!

“If you refuse, you’d better think very carefully about the consequences. Can you handle them?”

The force bore down on Steven’s shoulders like a mountain.

His legs were buckling.

His knees had already begun to bend.

Steven’s eyes burned red. Bullying him with raw power, was that it?

He glared at Wyatt without blinking.

“I said no!”

Wyatt’s sneer was ice. “You’re destroying her future!”

The pressure surged again.

Steven couldn’t hold out any longer. One knee buckled and slammed into the ground.

A wild, unhinged fire blazed in his eyes.

“You want to settle this? Then kill me! Otherwise, you can keep dreaming!”

A dangerous edge appeared on Wyatt’s face.

“You really think I wouldn’t dare?

“If I killed you right now, nobody would come after me over your death!”

Steven roared. “Then do it! Come on!

“If you don’t kill me today, I promise you–someday, I will come back and make you pay for every second of this!”

Wyatt laughed with open contempt. “A B–rank, coming to settle scores with me?”

Something feral and unhinged flared in Steven’s eyes.

“Just wait and see.”

Wyatt scoffed. “Fine. I’ll be waiting.

“In three days, we’re sending someone to collect you. You don’t have a choice.”

“We’re not going!”

Wyatt laughed coldly and released his pressure.

“When the time comes, it won’t be up to you.”

The moment the force lifted, Steven’s entire body was drenched in sweat. He was gasping for air in ragged, heaving breaths.

Wyatt’s voice was devoid of warmth. “You really think you have the power to change any of this? You don’t

get a say.

“If I drag you there in chains, what exactly are you going to do about it?”

Steven’s expression darkened. That son of a bitch. What the hell was going on?

All three of them paled. That meant someone had made a move on them.

And whoever it was had to be at least a Seven–Sigil Divine Lord.

“Who among the seniors are we addressing?” Wyatt’s voice carried a tremor he couldn’t quite suppress.

And then-

From the far end of the alley, a stooped old man stepped into view.

His eyes were cold and fathomless as the abyss itself, and they were locked squarely on Wyatt.

Wyatt’s blood ran cold. He was finished.

On the road home, the Frasers.

“Dad, do you think they’ll accept the Celestial Army’s offer?”

Rowan considered. “Hard to say.

“But either way—if they end up at the Awakened Academy, you have to seize the opportunity. Get that girl.

“Strike early, Reel her in while she’s still weak, and lock it down before she’s strong enough to slip away.”

Elliot nodded. “I know.

“That Steven kid is a minor nuisance, though. He’s acting like he’s somebody important.”

Rowan’s sneer was sharp. “An ant. Ignore him. No matter how much he flails, an ant is all he’ll ever be.

“Right now, Bianca values him, but give it time. He’s destined to be left behind.

“So, as long as you get into the Awakened Academy, you’ll have the biggest advantages over anyone. Don’t waste it.”
