Chapter 64 The Girl Who Bit Back

“You shut your mouth!”

Bianca’s fierce protectiveness erupted like a thunderclap.

The entire courtyard went dead silent.

Finished

Even Steven stared at her in disbelief.

Babe, what are you doing?

That man was a Celestial Army lieutenant general.

Not someone you could dress down without consequences.

If they got angry enough, they could haul her away by force and nobody would bat an eye.

All three generals were stunned.

They stared at Bianca, visibly thrown.

Nobody had ever spoken to them like that.

This girl had been timid as a mouse two seconds ago–where had this fire come from?

Did she genuinely not understand what the Celestial Army represented?

The Fraser father–and–son duo were equally floored. Had the girl lost her mind?

Talking like that to a Celestial Army lieutenant general? Telling him to shut up?

Lord have mercy, she’d completely snapped.

Inside the house, Vanessa–who’d been planning to stay out of sight–was horrified.

Ignorant as she might be about some things, she knew exactly what the Celestial Army stood for.

She rushed to Bianca’s side, grabbed her arm, and bowed repeatedly to the three generals in frantic apology.

Sirs, my daughter doesn’t know any better. Please forgive her.”

But Bianca refused to back down.

“Mom, go inside. I’m not being disrespectful.

“Nobody gets to bully Steven!

What’s wrong with him saying a few words?”

Her eyes were blazing as she faced the three generals, not yielding an inch.

This was Bianca’s answer.

Nobody—absolutely nobody–was allowed to bully Steven. She had promised him that.

She would protect Steven for the rest of her life.

Watching Bianca stand in front of him like that, Steven felt something crack open in his chest.

She was truly, genuinely, an incredible girl.

He swore to himself he would be good to her for the rest of his life.

Vanessa was on the verge of a breakdown.

“Bianca, stop talking.”

She could already see the storm gathering behind the generals‘ eyes.

She was about to apologize again-

But then, to everyone’s shock, all three generals burst out laughing.

The entire courtyard did a collective double–take.

Elliot was baffled.

They weren’t angry?

Should he try it too?

DISPO

Wyatt laughed with genuine delight. “Now, that’s what I like to see! Backbone! The Celestial Armies love people like you!”

Bianca’s glare didn’t soften.

Wyatt’s expression turned conciliatory. “I owe him an apology.

Steven, I apologize. That was out of line.”

He bowed formally to Steven.

Steven had been about to wave it off graciously, but then a thought stopped him–he was secretly SSS–rank too. Why should he grovel?

All three generals and the Fraser duo nearly tripped over their own feet.

Unbelievable. Give a guy an inch, and he thinks he owns the damn place.

Steven’s guard went up instantly. Registration?

They’d known from the start that Bianca deferred to Steven in everything.

Get Steven on board, and the deal was done.

Samuel and Ryland smiled warmly. “Bianca, Mrs. White–let’s step inside for the paperwork. Some of this is classified.”

Steven understood immediately.

They wanted him alone.

He gave Bianca a reassuring nod.

Only then did she follow them inside.

Wyatt turned, and the warmth vanished from his eyes as he leveled an icecold stare at the Frasers.

Rowan got the message instantly.

He retreated without another word.

The courtyard was empty now, except for Steven and Wyatt.

Wyatt turned to face him.

His eyes narrowed to slits.

Finished

“A B–rank with this much nerve. A few days of playing guardian, and she’s completely devoted to you.”

Steven was perfectly calm, not the least bit intimidated by the man’s presence.

“I try.”

Wyatt scoffed. “I’m not interested in small talk. I’m telling you straight–dragging her to the Awakened Academy is a waste of her time.

“If you actually cared about her, you’d bring her to the Celestial Army. That’s what’s best for both of you.”
