Chapter 359 Incoming Beasts

Her fury seemed to shake the doors of the manor. “Everyone back home is worthless! Worthless! Every single one of them is a complete idiot!

“A chance this perfect, and they just let it slip through their fingers! A bunch of useless fools.

“They won’t let me handle this myself?

“Fine, I’ll do it on my own. My idiot brother, my worthless father, don’t you worry. I’m getting our revenge tonight! I’ll deliver that little wretch straight to your doorstep as a sacrifice!

“And that whole Team Ashen squad, Bianca included, they’ll all be delivered to you, one by one!”

Manic laughter ripped across the air.

She rifled through her belongings, gathering an arsenal of heavy weaponry, her eyes blazing with something close to madness.

She wasn’t about to hold back the way the rest of her family always insisted on.

Some worthless Brank nobody. Killing him means nothing.

Why should I fear the military’s judgment? Why should I fear some mysterious power lurking in the shadows?

Only blood could put out the fire burning inside her chest.

No one had ever humiliated her this badly before.

This debt would be paid. Tonight.

A vicious grin spread across her face, completely unhinged.

“I’ll pull your teeth out one by one. I’ll snap every finger you have, joint by joint. I’m going to show you what true suffering really feels like.”

Steven and the others reached their assigned position.

Alan barked out the order.

“Rearguard, activate Divine Barrier now!”

“Yes, sir!”

“Yes, sir!”

“Yes, sir!”

Peter, Danny, and Louie’s voices rang out through the earpiece in quick succession.

In an instant, the Divine Barrier rose into place.

Watching Bianca standing there in her battle armor, Steven couldn’t shake a quiet thread of worry.

But this was the path Bianca had chosen, and nothing would change that.

“Promise me you won’t push yourself too hard,” Steven said, looking at her. “If you need backup, you call for it immediately. I’ll be at your side the second you do.”

Bianca nodded, her resolve unshaken.

“Don’t worry about me, Steven. If things get dangerous, I’ll pull back from the Divine Barrier right away. I can keep myself safe. I want to help you for real this time.”

The certainty in her expression eased something in his chest, and Steven nodded back.

“Don’t underestimate me either,” Bianca added. “I’m not weak anymore.”

Steven smiled. “I already know that.”

Peter chimed in. “Don’t worry, Vice Captain. I’d have to go down first before anything touches Bianca.”

“Don’t talk like that,” Steven said, looking at him. “Watch yourself too. Just hold the line.”

Peter grinned wide, privately marveling at how fast this kid had grown.

Olivia’s voice cut through the earpiece.

“Beasts incoming, estimated five minutes out! Everyone get into position!”

Steven took one last long look at Bianca.

She wasn’t that thin, pale, timid girl anymore. The Bianca standing before him now carried real presence, real fire, her gaze steady and unflinching.

“Be careful out there,” he said.

“You too, Steven,” she answered with a nod.

He nodded back and turned to head toward the central position.

Steven strained his eyes toward the towering wall in the distance.

Fiona’s combat experience barely cleared the minimum bar for this kind of fight.

At least Alan had already ascended to a Five–Sigil Divine General.

Steven himself had undergone real transformation too.

Beneath the outer residential districts, the ground had long since turned into a maze of tunnels and breaches. Beasts skilled at burrowing carved their own paths through with ease.

Even the military struggled to solve this particular problem.

Sealing every tunnel would demand resources far beyond what anyone could spare.

Organizing strike teams to cut the beasts down as they emerged remained the cheapest solution by far.

Even if every tunnel got sealed completely, the beasts would just dig new ones soon enough.

Killing them was the only real answer.

Alan’s voice came through the earpiece.

“Nicole, keep your focus on Peter’s group. Theo, stay close to Danny and the others. Don’t worry about the center, we’ve got it covered here.”

“Copy that!”

“Copy that!”

“Fiona, stay sharp. Don’t let your guard slip for a second.”

“Copy that,” Fiona answered, her voice cool and composed.

“Olivia, keep an eye on the area around Fiona.”

“Copy that!”

Alan’s eyes sharpened.

“Here they come. Get ready!”
