Reborn: Apocalypse Ready. War Goddess by My Side novel Chapter 358

Chapter 358 Another Siege

Finished

The room fell quiet with agreement. Everyone understood the truth of it: a prodigy was still just a prodigy until they proved themselves through real strength. Only true power earned respect, and only true power could make a family like the Reads think twice.

In the eyes of a family like that, nothing short of someone on the level of a Divine King would ever give them real pause.

Alan turned to Steven. “What’s your call?”

Bianca kept holding tight to Steven’s hand, fear written plainly across her face.

“Steven,” she said softly, “maybe we should just leave for now. We can come back and finish this later!”

“My biggest worry is that Abigail might lose her mind completely and go after my grandfather,” Steven said. “I want to take her out before we go anywhere.”

Alan went quiet for a moment.

Part of him wanted to tell Steven that worry was misplaced.

But he couldn’t bring himself to say it out loud.

Steven turned the thought over in his own mind. His grandfather was almost certainly far more capable than he let on. Nothing about him was as simple as it looked on the surface.

“Alright,” Steven said. “Once Grandpa’s somewhere safe, we’ll find the right opportunity to leave.”

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Right at that moment, a blinding red light flared across Olivia’s Starlink device.

Olivia’s voice cracked with alarm. “Beast swarm! We’ve got an assignment incoming!”

The whole room froze in shock.

How could another beast attack hit this soon?

Everyone moved at once.

But confusion gnawed at every single one of them.

Operation Moonfall had ended. Lars, Hugo, and everyone tied to that mess were already dead and gone.

So how could the beasts already be storming the walls again, this fast?

“You don’t think the God Eaters are back, do you?” Darlene asked, her voice edged with suspicion.

Alan shook his head. “Don’t jump to conclusions yet. This could just be a normal beast assault.”

Olivia kept scanning the incoming data.

Finished

“Our assignment location’s confirmed. North side of the city. This beast swarm is massive, way bigger than usual, and it’s closing in fast.

“There wasn’t any warning beforehand?” Peter asked.

Olivia shook her head. “There probably was. The military likely had some intel, but they didn’t share it with us. Maybe their projected timeline was off and the attack just hit early.

“Let’s move. The beasts are about to breach.”

“Gear up!” Alan called out.

Steven pulled on his battle armor without hesitation.

“Steven, sit this one out,” Alan said. “Your wounds haven’t healed yet.”

Steven waved that off. “There’s no way I’m staying behind! I’m completely fine. Darlene already patched me up, and there’s nothing serious left to worry about.”

Alan paused for a beat. “I just think the Reads might use this exact moment to strike.”

Steven grinned. “Honestly, I’m hoping they do! If they show up, I’ll kill them on sight!

“Don’t worry, captain. As long as we’re all together, if they’re stupid enough to try something in the middle of all this, the military will finally have an airtight reason to crush them for good.”

Everyone nodded at that.

“Fair point,” someone murmured.

Right then, Bianca started strapping on her own battle armor.

“Bianca, you can’t come on this one,” Steven said quickly.

But Bianca just looked at him, steady and unmoving, and the stubborn resolve in her eyes said everything words couldn’t.

“We move forward together, no matter what. I haven’t been pulling my weight for you lately.”

“Yes, sir!”

This would absolutely work.

A manic gleam lit up Abigail’s expression.

Her wounds hadn’t fully healed, but that hardly mattered to her anymore.

She was determined to use this window to end Steven once and for all.

She looked completely unhinged in that moment.

“Have you caught them yet?” she snapped into the call connecting her to her men.

On the video feed, one of her men answered.

“Ma’am, we’ve already grabbed three of his roommates! And his best friend too, the one who actually matters most. We’re waiting for him to step outside.”

A vicious grin spread across Abigail’s face.

“Good! The second you have him, bring them straight to that location! I’ll be waiting there myself.”

“Ma’am, are we really moving this fast?”

Abigail’s eyes burned bright red with fury.

“Did I ask for your opinion?”

The man on the line immediately fell silent.

Finished

“Call in everyone! Every single person we can use, get them moving now! And put up five million divine crystals! Hire three Divine Knight mercenaries, whatever it takes! That worthless little wretch/dies today,. and there won’t even be a body left to bury!”

“Yes, ma’am!”

Despite wounds that hadn’t even begun to heal, Abigail’s face twisted into a wide, manic, merciless grin.
