Chapter 356 Traitor

A wave of overwhelming dread crashed into him all at once.

His senses flared white–hot, and Scorchblood Ignition erupted on instinct alone.

Steven finally caught what was wrong.

Pure reflex drove his hand to clamp down on the Dragon Spear and wrench it across his side just in time:

A sharp clash of steel rang out, followed by a heavy concussive blast.

“Steven!”

“Steven!”

“Steven!”

“Steven!”

His allies all froze in panic before bolting toward him at once.

Steven had already been sent flying through the air.

A violent gale tore through the plaza, and Alan’s eyes burned with pure murderous intent.

Back at command, Jensen nearly choked watching the feed.

He let out a string of furious curses under his breath, his composure completely shattered.

This disaster had come from nowhere, and a cold sweat broke out across his entire body. Someone on his own side had been bought out by the Reads.

This is a nightmare.

Nobody could have predicted that the military escort standing right beside Steven would turn on him.

The two of them had been standing only inches apart.

That single fluid strike had come too fast for anyone to register.

Even someone with sharp instincts wouldn’t have caught it in time.

All anyone saw was Steven, blood trailing through the air, getting hurled backward by the force of the blow.

The traitor’s expression darkened. This isn’t right.

His strike had been blocked. If it hadn’t, that blow would have taken Steven’s head clean off.

He wasted no time after landing the hit. He turned and bolted.

Back within the Read compound, the gathered Divine Generals watching the feed lit up with pure delight.

“Is he dead?”

“He has to be dead after that!”

Connor’s brow furrowed.

Abigail, watching the same screen, burst into wild, vicious laughter.

“Finally! That worthless little wretch deserved exactly this! I just wish I could have delivered the blow myself!

“Die! Just die already!”

The rest of Steven’s allies sprinted toward him, with Bianca reaching him first.

Her voice cracked with raw panic. “Steven!”

Alan exploded into motion, charging straight at the fleeing traitor.

He let out a low scoff, his speed surging to its absolute peak.

A single brutal slash tore through the night sky, the edge of his blade gleaming like the coldest weapon ever forged.

The traitor felt the terror closing in behind him.

Pure instinct sent him spinning around.

He yanked out an origin energy cannon and unleashed a volley straight at Alan.

Several blasts fired off in rapid succession.

But to Alan, this barely registered as a threat.

One clean slash sent every blast scattering harmlessly into the night sky, blooming apart like fireworks overhead.

Watching Alan close the distance regardless, the traitor’s eyes flashed with something cold and calculating.

Three detonation charges materialized in his hand.

He hurled them straight toward Steven’s group with brutal precision, hoping to pull Alan’s focus away and buy himself a window to escape.

A cold smirk crossed his face. Save them, or come finish me off.

He hadn’t made this move blind. He’d planned for exactly this contingency.

This entire chain of chaos had only been possible because most of the livestream feeds had already been cut, and the crowd that had gathered nearby had already been dispersed.

Otherwise, a scene like this would have set off a citywide panic instantly.

What kind of monster is this?

When did he even draw that blade?

This man is absolutely terrifying.

He tried to use the momentum from the blow to make his escape.

But the next instant, to his utter horror, Alan was already standing right in front of him.

In that moment, despair swallowed him whole.

Is this man even human?

Alan’s eyes burned with a fury that refused to be contained.

There was no way he’d let this traitor walk away now.

Murderous intent blazing, he unleashed another slash, aimed straight at the man’s face.

There was no time left to dodge, no room left to escape.

All he could do was watch helplessly as the blade came down on him.

A brutal impact cracked through the air.

He heard the sickening sound of his own bones shattering from the inside.

A deep, terrible wound split open across his chest, cutting clean down to the bone.

The force sent him flying backward once again.

This time despair truly took hold of him completely.

He coughed up several mouthfuls of blood before crashing back down in the center of the small plaza.

He watched Alan advance toward him, blade raised, one slow step at a time.

His eyes were wide with horror.

“Don’t kill me. I never wanted any of this. I was forced into it. Alan, please, spare me!”

Alan’s cold eyes held nothing but bottomless hostility.
