Chapter 120 Her Decision

Finobed

Fiona’s gaze stayed–cool and unreadable. “This is my decision to make, Frank. I’m perfectly capable of handling my own affairs.”

Frank looked like he was about to fall apart completely.

“You’re going to get me killed. Your father is going to come after me personally.”

“He won’t dare,” Fiona said flatly. “And if he tries anything, I’ll shield you myself.

“Besides, what I do with my life is none of his business.”

Fiona pulled free from Frank’s grip and pressed her signature into the contract.

Frank sank into full–blown despair.

She just buried me alive.

How did the president ever think it was a good idea to send me on an errand like this?

Fiona’s father is going to kill me. Grand General rank, at minimum a Divine King, possibly already a Divine Lord by

now.

A Divine King alone was enough to make Frank’s blood run cold, and that was before factoring in the man’s position and reach.

Alan watched Fiona’s expression as she signed, something unreadable flickering briefly in his eyes.

She reminds me of

Fiona looked up at Alan. “Captain, I’ve signed.”

Alan’s voice came out as flat and cold as bare stone. “You’re a long way from calling me Captain yet. Get outside. I need to see what you’re actually capable of before I consider you anything.”

Fiona didn’t hesitate for even a breath.

The two of them moved outside together.

Fiona wasted no time. Her Divine Sigil surged to life, and three brilliant Sigil marks blazed into visibility

around her.

A pressure descended like the first breath of deep winter, and the air around them dropped several degrees in the span of a heartbeat.

Fiona’s battle armor materialized over her.

Alan’s did the same.

The fight ignited without ceremony.

Frank sat down on the front steps in silent devastation, lit a cigarette, and started mentally calculating where he’d like to be buried.

These prodigies were going to kill him someday.

He stared at nothing in particular, completely hollow.

The fight stretched on for a long time.

Fiona fell, and got back up. She fell again, and got back up again. Blood came up from her throat more than once, her armor cracked and buckled under the punishment, and still she pressed forward without a single sound of pain, without a single plea for mercy, without even the shadow of surrender.

Only the fight remained. Gradually, something in Alan’s bearing shifted. He was starting to believe her.

Then, finally, Fiona went down and stayed down, her reserves completely gutted, her strength burned to nothing.

She lay on the ground in the ruins of her armor, blood on her lips, wounds scattered across her body, even her weapon broken.

Her chest heaved with ragged, labored breaths.

Her skin glowed under the light. If it weren’t for the signs of battle, perhaps the scene would look like something else entirely.

Alan gave the scene a single dispassionate glance and put away his weapon.

“Darlene, Olivia, come to my location. New recruit needs medical attention and registration.”

Fiona heard those words, and the corners of her eyes went faintly red. She lifted one exhausted arm and pressed it over her face, hiding the tears that were already sliding silently down her cheeks.

At least she’d done this one thing entirely on her own.

“Actually, wait. There’s one more thing.”

Bianca looked up at him with wide, questioning eyes. “What is it?”

Steven reached over and flicked the tip of her nose lightly.

“You’ve been pushing yourself way too hard lately. You’re thinking about evolution every waking hour. You need to actually rest sometimes.”

“I know,” she said softly, dropping her gaze and fidgeting with her fingers. “I just really want to get strong enough to protect you as fast as possible.”

Bianca seemed to sense something in his expression shift.

She peeked up at him cautiously. “Should I… maybe take tonight off?”

Steven genuinely almost melted on the spot.

He shook his head slowly. “How you manage your time is your choice. I’m just reminding you. But I do have a punishment to hand out.”

Bianca’s eyes went wide. “A punishment?

“What kind of punishment?”

Steven leaned his face close to hers and pressed a brief, gentle kiss to her cheek.

“That’s the punishment.”

Bianca’s face turned scarlet in the span of a single breath.

Can punishments like this please happen more often?

Steven gave her his most menacing look. “Keep misbehaving, and I’ll just have to keep punishing you.”
