Chapter 119 Her Vow
Bianca’s face burned with mortification.
“You’re such a perv,” she managed, her voice coming out somewhere between a scold and a squeak.

“Oh, so now I’m a perv?” Steven’s eyes lit up with mischief. “Keep that up, Bianca, and I’m going to kiss you again.”
Bianca spun around and fled in a burst of genuine, flustered panic.
Steven laughed after her, warm and delighted. She called him a perv, so naturally he had to prove her right.
Steven followed after her at a leisurely pace.
A little while later, Bianca finally got herself back under control.
Her heart, however, was still hammering away in her chest like it had somewhere urgent to be.
If every day for the rest of her life felt this sweetly chaotic, she wouldn’t complain about a single one of them.
The two of them found a cozy little restaurant with a genuinely pleasant atmosphere.
They splurged, just a little.
On the northern edge of the Academy grounds stood a villa that looked extravagant from the outside and was almost aggressively sparse on the inside.
There were no lavish furnishings or excess of any kind.
The main hall had been stripped bare, leaving nothing but a handful of plain wooden chairs.
The villa stretched across what had to be more than a dozen rooms.
Every one of them sat empty.

Frank settled into one of the wooden chairs with the composed, cool–eyed Fiona beside him.
Alan carried two cups of coffee over and set them down.
Frank smiled. “It’s been a while. How’ve you
been?”
Alan gave a small nod. “Getting by.”
Alan didn’t spare Fiona so much as a glance.
A girl like Fiona drew eyes wherever she went. She had the kind of presence that filled a room just by existing in it.

Alan looked through her like she wasn’t there.
Alan kept it direct. “What do you need?”
Frank’s expression turned a little awkward.
“Well, it’s, uh…”
Fiona heard plenty about Alan’s reputation on the way over, and Frank gave her an extensive briefing throughout the entire trip.
Frank’s instructions were clear: let him do the talking.
Otherwise, things would get very difficult very fast.
But from the moment Fiona stepped through the door, she found herself studying the villa with quiet, searching eyes. Alan was genuinely peculiar in a way that felt unlike anything she’d encountered before.
Fiona’s cool gaze settled on Alan before Frank could collect his thoughts and begin.
Her voice rang out through the empty villa, clear and unhesitating. “Captain Greenwood, my name is Fiona Northcott. I want to join Team Ashen.”
The words echoed off the bare walls and landed in Frank’s ears like a death sentence.
There goes the whole conversation.
Alan swept a single, dispassionate glance over her.
“We’re not accepting anyone.”
Frank’s expression crumpled into pure suffering. Why does every last prodigy have to throw out the playbook the moment you need them to follow it?
Alan pulled his attention away from Fiona and directed it at Frank instead.
“If you bring someone like this again, don’t bother corning at all.”
Frank spread his hands helplessly. “I…”

“When your father decides he wants you back, what exactly is going to stop him from coming to collect you? He’s a Grand General.”
Fiona carried a particular brand of stubbornness that seemed to exist completely independent of outside logic.
“I’ll sign a permanent binding contract. I’ll never be a member of any other organization.”
Frank lost what remained of his composure entirely.
“Absolutely not! That is completely off the table!”
He turned to Alan, his voice sharp with urgency. “Alan, I mean it. I’m taking her out of here right now. I’m not carrying this kind of disaster.”

Alan, to Frank’s great alarm, siniled.
He looked at Fiona with something unreadable in his expression.
“Fiona,” he said, “do you understand what a permanent binding contract actually means?”
“I do,” Fiona answered without hesitation. “Once I sign, I’m Team Ashen for life. I can never join the military. The only way out is if Team Ashen ceases to exist entirely, or if I die.”
Alan’s smile stayed cold and still.
He pulled up his StarComm and navigated to the contract.
He sent it across to Fiona with a flick of his finger.
“Sign it, then.”
Fiona didn’t pause for even a single breath. She signed.
Frank’s eyes looked like they were about to pop out of his head.
He crossed the room in something close to a sprint and closed his hand around Fiona’s wrist.
“Fiona! You cannot sign that!”
