Alistair's face instantly turned livid, his humiliation almost palpable. From the moment this girl walked in, she held all the cards. And now, she had the audacity to blatantly order him to serve her tea!
Their roles were completely reversed.
In the past, Phoenix had served him respectfully. Now, she was the one looking down from above, and he was the servant pouring the tea.
“Phoenix, don't burn all your bridges.” Alistair's chest heaved as he suppressed his fury. “Pushing things to the absolute edge benefits no one.”
Phoenix shrugged indifferently and let out a soft laugh. “What? Does making a cup of tea for me feel like such a hardship? If it's that difficult...” She lowered her gaze, her tone turning icy. “Then there's the door.”
“You—” Alistair's eyes bulged, his mustache trembling with rage. But thinking of the Prescott Group's plummeting stock price, he forced down his fury and gritted out, “Fine. I'll pour it.”
He slammed his cane aside and stiffly reached for the tea set.
After a clumsy, hurried brewing process, he pushed a small cup of golden tea toward her.
Phoenix picked up the cup with slender fingers, took a careless sip, and then placed it back on the table with a sharp clink. “It seems you really are getting old. You can't even get the temperature right. This tea is incredibly bitter.”
Alistair took a deep breath, fighting the urge to flip the table. He spoke with forced earnestness, “Phoenix, you've already torn Warren's family apart. You've had your revenge. No matter what, you still have Prescott blood in your veins. The company is facing bankruptcy. You must come back and take charge.”
With a flick of her finger, Phoenix flipped the teacup completely upside down on the table. She looked up, her gaze sharp as a blade. “Alistair, in what capacity are you giving me orders? As a superior elder, or... as a desperate man begging for help?”
The words felt like a resounding slap to the face, utterly shredding Alistair's remaining pride and crushing the authority he had painstakingly built over decades.
An elder? The same elder who had personally kicked her out of the family not long ago?
A beggar? What beggar dared to speak with such an entitled attitude?
