Phoenix chuckled softly, shaking her head in mockery. "She is she, and you are you. What's wrong? You're already at the end of the line, and you're still clinging to that pathetic shred of pride?"
Warren swayed heavily, as if his spine had been ripped out. Resentment and humiliation churned violently in his chest. He glared at Phoenix, his chest heaving rapidly for a few moments, before finally taking a deep breath. His legs buckled, and he finally broke, collapsing in total defeat before her.
The moment he hit the floor, he felt the arrogance he had carefully maintained for half his life shatter like glass.
"I was wrong, Phoenix. I apologize..." He lowered his head, forcing the words through his teeth. "Please, leave the Prescott family a way out."
Clap, clap, clap!
Phoenix clapped slowly, her eyes brimming with amusement. "Who would have thought? The high and mighty Warren Prescott, who manipulated everyone's fate, would one day bow so low. I'll make sure to remember this moment. It's not every day you get to see such a spectacular show."
Warren's fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white, a thick, venomous hatred brewing in his eyes. "So, are you coming back to the company now?"
"I refuse."
"What did you just say?!"
Warren's pupils constricted as he violently sprang up from the floor, his face twisted in pure rage. "Are you messing with me?!"
"I merely said I would 'consider' it." Phoenix leaned back in her chair, a playful smile on her lips. "And I've made up my mind—I'm not coming back."
"I'll kill you!!" His sanity completely incinerated by fury, Warren lunged at her like a rabid beast.
Yet, Phoenix didn't even blink. With a casual flick of her leg, she kicked him and the chair backward, sending him flying across the room.
Before Warren could even scramble to his feet, the bodyguards intervened again, pinning him securely to the floor.
"You're going to pay for your arrogance, Phoenix!" Warren's face was pressed against the hardwood, his features terrifyingly distorted. "You think controlling the Prescott Group makes you a winner? In the eyes of certain people, you're nothing but a dancing clown!"
Phoenix narrowed her eyes slightly, tapping her fingers rhythmically against the wooden table.
After a long pause, she spoke softly. "Phoebe's mother... belongs to the Sovereign Circle, doesn't she?"
The moment those words left her mouth, Warren, who had just been screaming like a maniac, was suddenly silenced as if someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over his head.
