Outcast Queen: Her Return from Hell novel Chapter 149

Phoenix rolled her eyes and huffed, "I think you need to find a boyfriend so you stop clinging to me every day."

"You're sick of me!" Meredith wrinkled her nose, looking deeply aggrieved.

Despite her immense reluctance, Meredith ultimately bit the bullet and left for the sake of Lumina Jewelry's future and to better protect Phoenix.

After seeing Meredith off, Phoenix checked the time. It was nearing five in the afternoon.

The massive Prescott Manor felt empty. Aside from a few servants, there was no sign of Warren Prescott's family anywhere.

"How strange," Phoenix frowned as she looked around. "Vanessa is usually home at this hour. Why is there no one around today?"

Though suspicious, she didn't dig deeper. Just as she was about to return to her room, her phone screen lit up.

It was a text message from Pierce Sterling.

[Are you coming back tonight?]

Phoenix found it utterly baffling.

Pierce's obsession with whether or not she returned to Starlight Heights was bordering on abnormal.

She shook her head and tapped the screen, drafting a teasing message and sending it over.

Phoenix: Ninth, missed me after just one day apart? Or has the eternal iceberg finally caught feelings for me?

The message was dripping with provocation.

Phoenix could practically picture Pierce reading the message, plummeting temperatures around him as he emanated a freezing aura.

Exactly as she predicted, Pierce was currently staring at his phone, the air pressure around him dropping rapidly. Even Yancy, who was driving, felt a chill run down his spine and tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

Who is Boss texting? Why did his face suddenly drop?

Could it be Phoenix?

Yancy was secretly certain: aside from Phoenix, who else had the ability to make Pierce sport that murderous yet fiercely restrained expression?

"Yancy, in your eyes, does telling her to come back to Starlight Heights make it seem like I'm interested in her?"

Pierce suddenly looked up, throwing out a deadly trick question that caused cold sweat to break out on Yancy's forehead.

This question was a complete trap. If he said "No," Pierce might call him a hypocrite. If he said "Yes," Pierce would definitely scold him for spouting nonsense.

"Well... you are simply thinking of the big picture, Mr. Sterling." Yancy's survival instincts kicked into high gear, delivering a flawless, airtight answer. "You're only doing this to dispel Arthur Sterling's suspicions, so the patriarch doesn't have to worry about your marriage anymore."

She didn't rush to shake them off. Instead, she steered with one hand to maintain her route while dialing Eustace's number with the other.

"Run a plate for me," Phoenix said evenly, reading out a string of numbers. "License plate: XXXXXXX."

Not long after, Eustace's voice came through. "Ms. Prescott, I checked. It's a cloned plate. We can't trace the owner's real identity."

"As expected." Even without specific details, Phoenix had already made her judgment. With tracking methods like this, they were either hired thugs or... professional hitmen.

But she had only just gotten out of prison. Who was in such a hurry to cause her trouble?

"Ms. Prescott, is something wrong?" Eustace asked anxiously.

"It's nothing, just a pest," Phoenix replied calmly. "I can handle it. Keep an eye on Mavis."

"Understood."

Hanging up, Phoenix glanced in the rearview mirror and then violently yanked the steering wheel to the left.

The Lamborghini drifted in a sharp arc at the intersection, instantly turning into a side street.

The driver behind was clearly stunned for a second. By the time they reacted, Phoenix's taillights had disappeared around the corner. Dropping all pretense, the driver slammed the gas pedal to the floor and gave chase like a madman.
