Cloudhaven General Hospital, VIP Ward.
The air in the family waiting room felt congealed, suffocatingly tense.
"Thaddeus, Marcus took Mavis hostage and escaped." Milo's face was grim as he delivered a rapid report. "It was chaotic. Mavis didn't know what was happening and stepped too close after listening to his lies, and then..."
He paused, gritting his teeth. "Marcus suddenly lunged at her, holding her hostage. The bodyguards were afraid of hurting Mavis, so they could only watch him break out."
"That traitorous son!"
Thaddeus slammed his hand on the table, his eyes dark with storm clouds, fury practically erupting from him. "He still wants to struggle at a time like this? Milo, mobilize every man the family has! Search the entire city!"
"You must drag Marcus back here!"
"Yes, sir!"
Just as Milo turned to leave, staggering footsteps echoed from the end of the hall.
A fragile figure stumbled into view.
"Mavis?"
Thaddeus shot up from his seat, his pupils shrinking. "Mavis, how did you get back?"
"Dad... Milo..." Mavis was as pale as a sheet. She forced a broken smile before swaying on her feet and collapsing to the floor.
"Quick! Get a doctor!" Thaddeus yelled in horror, rushing over to catch his daughter.
After a chaotic flurry of emergency treatment, Mavis's condition finally stabilized.
"Ms. Miller suffered a stab wound to her abdomen. It was quite deep, but fortunately, it missed her vital organs, or the consequences would have been disastrous," the doctor sighed in relief, taking off his mask.
"That bastard!!"
Fury churned in Thaddeus's chest. Ignoring the dignity of a family patriarch, he smashed his fist hard against the wall.
"Mavis is his own sister! How could that animal do such a thing?"
Milo stood by, frowning as he looked at the unconscious Mavis. He felt an eerie sense of wrongness about the whole thing, but with too few clues and his uncle in a blinding rage, he didn't dare voice his suspicions.
"Milo, what are you standing there for? Drag that traitor back here!"
"Understood." Milo took the order and hastily retreated.
The moment he left, Mavis let out a low groan of pain and slowly woke up. "Dad..."
She glanced down at her bandaged abdomen, a manic gleam flashing in her eyes. "But the effect was flawless. Thaddeus's hatred for Marcus has reached its peak. That idiot will never bounce back in this lifetime."
"You wanted me to help you turn the tables? Ha, pathetic. I only said that so I could swallow all your assets. Now, I'll step over your corpse and become the sole favorite of this family."
"The entire Miller family will soon be in the palm of my hand."
...
Prescott Manor.
Phoenix and Meredith had just returned home and sat down when they received a call from Milo.
After hanging up, Meredith frowned, looking stunned. "Phoenix, Marcus has really lost his mind! To escape, he not only held Mavis hostage but even stabbed her. Now Thaddeus is definitely going to abandon him completely."
Hearing this, Phoenix didn't rush to reply. She tapped her fingers lightly on the table, lost in thought.
Marcus's escape was full of glaring inconsistencies.
At such a critical moment when Cyan was treating the patriarch, Mavis's absence was inherently suspicious.
Right after that, while under heavy guard, Marcus somehow accidentally ran into Mavis, and managed to hold her hostage and escape in front of a crowd?
