Taking a deep breath, Seraphina aggressively grabbed the hairdryer and blasted it at her damp hair.
She needed to calm down and blast every single chaotic thought right out of her head.
......
The next morning, Lucian headed straight to the airport after breakfast.
He had been called away on an emergency business trip.
Seraphina only found out from Susan after she woke up.
Honestly, she was slightly relieved.
After last night's absolute disaster of an encounter.
Facing him today would have been incredibly awkward.
After breakfast, Seraphina took a quiet stroll through the gardens when her phone suddenly buzzed with a call from Samuel Simmons.
"Sera, are you busy?"
That tone was completely unheard of.
On the other end of the line, Samuel sounded exceptionally cautious, practically begging for her favor.
Settling into one of the garden lounge chairs, Seraphina remained silent.
Something was definitely wrong.
In all these years, when had Samuel ever spoken to her like this?
Forget about fawning over her; he rarely even showed her basic decency.
Just the other day, he had slapped her across the face without a second of hesitation.
"Sera? Are you there?"
"I'm listening," Seraphina replied calmly. "What is it?"
Samuel paused for a few seconds, clearly choosing his words carefully.
"About the other day... it was my fault. I was in a bad mood, and things got out of hand. Please don't take it to heart."
Seraphina raised a skeptical eyebrow.
An apology?
Samuel Simmons was actually apologizing to her?
She pressed her lips together, flashing back to that chaotic afternoon.
"Did you put Lucian up to targeting the Simmons Group?" Samuel demanded.
Ah, there it was.
Everything finally clicked for Seraphina.
She knew Samuel wouldn't have called her out of the goodness of his heart.
"I have no idea what you're implying," she replied coolly.
"No idea? Don't play dumb with me! Lucian suddenly launched an attack on the company, shutting us out of The Starlight Grand project. And this morning, the banks started aggressively tightening our credit lines. Don't try to tell me this has nothing to do with you!" Samuel's voice escalated into a near shout.
It had to be Lucian retaliating on Seraphina's behalf, mercilessly tearing into the Simmons Group.
Seraphina blinked in genuine surprise.
Lucian had actually made a move?
She truly had zero knowledge of any of this.
But as the reality of it sank in, a wave of complicated emotions surged through her chest.
That man hadn't mentioned a single word to her, yet he had silently turned around and completely dismantled the Simmons Group's operations.
