My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 479

In the parking lot, just as Seraphina reached the car, the sharp click of high heels echoed behind her.

Melody walked over, her arms crossed, her eyes raking over Seraphina.

She wore the smug smirk of a victor.

"What perfect timing, Ms. Simmons."

Seraphina turned to look at her. "Is it?"

"Showing up after the competition is already over—isn't that quite a coincidence?"

Melody took a step closer. "I actually thought you locking yourself away for three days meant you were brewing up some real talent. Turns out, you didn't even have the nerve to step onto the floor."

Lucian glanced up. "Ms. Monroe, when you speak so absolutely, it's very hard to walk it back later."

Melody's smile faltered for a second. "Lucian, I'm just telling the truth. The truth hurts, and I know you might not like hearing it, but—"

Seraphina pressed her hand over Lucian's, signaling him not to speak.

Seeing the gesture, Melody's chest tightened with frustration. "Seraphina, are you hiding behind a man again?"

Seraphina chuckled softly. "Which eye exactly saw me hiding?"

"Isn't it obvious? You backed out today, and now you're making Lucian save face for you."

"Ms. Monroe, you advanced to the semi-finals today in seventh place, right?"

Melody's face dropped. "How do you know that?"

"It doesn't matter how I know. What matters is that it's the truth."

Melody quickly regained her composure and scoffed. "So what? I still made the semi-finals."

"And you," she sneered, "didn't even have the guts to compete."

"You made it, sure."

Seraphina casually rested her hand against the car door, standing tall as she met Melody's glare. "It's just that the 'top-tier talent' you were bragging about only managed to scrape by in seventh."

Melody bit her lip. "The preliminary rankings don't dictate the final outcome. At least I actually showed up."

Seraphina nodded. "Right. You showed up, and nearly dragged your entire team below the qualifying line."

Melody's expression shattered completely. "How could you possibly know about that?"

Seraphina just looked at her.

Melody glared, her voice rising. "Tell me, how do you know?"

"No comment," Seraphina replied with a casual shrug.
