My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 474

A faint smile touched Seraphina's lips. "Because he was worried I'd be scared today."

Marcus studied her for a long moment before breaking the silence. "Does he treat you well?"

"He does."

"How well?"

Seraphina's ears grew hot.

"Professor, you're starting to sound like you're running a background check."

"Damn right I am," Marcus said, keeping a stern face.

"Your taste in men back then was so abysmal it made me question reality. What's wrong with me asking a few questions now?"

Seraphina answered honestly.

"He respects me. He doesn't hold me back, and he'd never trade my skills for his own gain."

Caleb's expression finally softened. "That's more like it."

"He's right outside the Institute. Would you like to meet him?"

Marcus remained stubborn. "If we're going to meet, he should formally introduce himself to us."

"Next time, then."

Seraphina walked to the door and turned back.

"Professor, Caleb. I will never throw away my career for anyone ever again."

Marcus met her eyes. "Remember you said that."

"I will."

Seraphina carried her books downstairs and walked out the front doors of the Institute.

Just as she did, Melody's car sped past, nearly clipping the front of Lucian's parked car, leaving a cloud of exhaust in its wake.

Standing by the car, Christian's face darkened.

"Mr. Langford, she did that on purpose."

Sitting in the backseat, Lucian pulled his gaze away from Melody's retreating taillights.

"Take note of it."

"Right away," Christian replied immediately.

"The license plate or the person?"

"Both."

Seraphina approached just in time to hear the exchange.

"Take note of what?"

Christian quickly covered for his boss.

"Taking note of the parking spot, so it's easier to pick you up next time, Ma'am."

Seraphina looked at Lucian. "Do you actually believe that?"

Lucian reached out and took the books from her arms. "I believe he tried very hard to come up with that lie on the spot."

Christian silently opened the car door.

Seraphina slid in, immediately glancing at his legs.

"How was rehab?"

Lucian took her hand, his palm warm against her skin.
