"Caleb," Lucian repeated, his tone heavy with implication.
Seraphina looked up. "Here we go again."
He rested the folder on his lap. "He can send you the materials. That's fine."
"And?"
"No chatting after ten o'clock at night."
She let out an exasperated laugh. "You're setting curfews now?"
"Work is fine. Late-night check-ins are not."
"He's just sending project files."
"Excellent."
She looked at him with absolute seriousness. "Lucian, you're becoming quite the micromanager."
"You're welcome to manage me back."
"What is there for me to manage?"
"For example, forbidding me from contacting Melody Monroe."
Without missing a beat, she said, "You shouldn't be contacting her in the first place."
His expression softened. "Understood."
Realizing she had answered a little too quickly, she lowered her head and flipped a page. "I'm just thinking about family harmony."
"Of course. Always looking at the big picture, Mrs. Langford."
"Stop smiling."
Forcing herself to focus on the book, she eventually lost herself in the text once more.
Time flew by.
When the thirty-five minutes were up, Lucian didn't say a word.
Finishing a subsection, Seraphina glanced at the time and realized she had gone over the limit.
She cleared her throat. "Five more minutes."
He raised an eyebrow. "A breach of contract, Mrs. Langford?"
"You didn't remind me."
"I was saving your pride."
She put the pen down. "So, what do you want to negotiate now?"
Lucian reached out a hand. "Come here."
She looked at his hand warily. "Let's get one thing straight. No messing around."
"Look at the state I'm in. How much could I possibly mess around?"
"You know exactly how much."
His smile deepened. "I don't. Why don't you teach me?"
She glared at him. "Lucian."
He dropped his hand, his voice softening. "Sera, just come give me a hug."
The tension in her shoulders melted. She rounded the desk and stepped over to him. "Just a hug?"
