My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 461

Seraphina Simmons carried the documents back into Lyra Bay. Without even taking off her coat, she headed straight for the nursery.

Little Bean had just finished his bottle. He lay in his crib, kicking his little legs and happily waving his fists.

Seraphina set the book aside and leaned over to tap his nose. "Mommy needs to read for a bit. I'll play with you later, okay?"

Little Bean blew a milk bubble.

"Mommy says 'a bit,' but once she opens a book, it's dawn before she stops. I've already figured her out."

Stifling a laugh, Seraphina tucked the small blanket around him.

Susan gathered the empty bottle. "Go on and get to work, ma'am. The young heir just ate, so he'll be asleep soon."

Seraphina kissed Little Bean on the forehead. "Mommy will come check on you later."

Little Bean's little face scrunched up.

"Mommy's going to obsess over her files, and Daddy's going to obsess over Mommy. Does anyone in this house care about my sleep quality?"

Seraphina nearly broke character. She grabbed her documents and hurried out.

At the door, she glanced back one last time.

Little Bean stared at her with those big, dark eyes, looking impossibly well-behaved.

"Good luck, Mommy. Go win The 'Volt & Velocity' Green Energy Summit, and placate Daddy while you're at it. His face tonight practically screams 'pay attention to me.'"

Her ears burning, Seraphina carried the book upstairs.

The study door clicked shut.

She opened the title page, scanning the index and the annotations. Her pen moved swiftly, circling several lines of German terminology and scribbling English translations in the margins.

Her phone lit up.

Caleb Sommers had sent a text: "Did you get the book?"

Seraphina replied: "Got it."

Caleb sent another message: "Don't stay up too late. I'll send you the summit rules tomorrow."

Seraphina texted back a quick "Okay" before diving back into the pages.

She was so absorbed that she completely missed the soft hum of an electric wheelchair approaching down the hall.

Lucian Langford stopped at the doorway and knocked twice.

No answer.

He knocked again.

Without looking up, Seraphina called out, "Susan, just leave the soup on the table. I'll have it later."

Lucian rolled into the room, his gaze sweeping over her profile. "Susan hasn't come upstairs yet."

Seraphina's pen paused. She looked up. "Oh, it's you."

Lucian pushed the wheelchair closer. "Disappointed to see me?"
