My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 459

Melody tightened her grip on her designer handbag and immediately spun toward Lucian.

"Lucian, I swear I didn't mean to make Ms. Simmons angry."

She deliberately forced a pathetic tremor into her voice. To any casual bystander, Seraphina would have seemed like a ruthless bully attacking a fragile victim.

Lucian completely ignored her theatrics, keeping his focus entirely on his wife.

"Are you angry?"

Seraphina tapped her phone screen awake, then let it fade to black.

"No."

Lucian nodded.

"Then she's just being delusional."

Melody choked on her next breath, the carefully constructed victim speech dying in her throat.

The clerk tapped the keyboard a few times, looking up at the screen with an expression of pure dread.

"My apologies to both of you, but we only have a single copy left in the store, and it's already been pre-ordered."

Melody tipped her chin up triumphantly, the arrogant confidence instantly surging back into her demeanor.

"Did you catch that, Ms. Simmons?"

Seraphina ignored her entirely. She opened Caleb's digital receipt and slid her phone across the counter.

"Here is the purchase receipt. The order number and timestamp are right there. Please verify it."

The clerk cross-referenced the system, looking increasingly uncomfortable.

"That's correct. This copy was paid for by a Mr. Sommers at exactly 4:26 PM today. The store has secured the inventory under the pick-up name Seraphina Simmons."

Melody slammed her palms down on the counter. "I placed an advanced hold on this! Does your reservation system just mean absolutely nothing?"

"Ma'am, the third-party app you used isn't directly linked to our live inventory. We can only track guaranteed in-store payments and manual reservations. Your online hold probably didn't sync with our actual stock."

"So this high-end bookstore can't even maintain a functioning database?"

The clerk's face turned bright red.

"I am so sorry. We can special order another copy from a distributor, but the earliest it could arrive would be next week."

Melody glared at the heavy textbook sitting behind the counter.

"I want it today."

Seraphina looked over.

"The system honors whichever customer paid first, correct?"

The clerk nodded frantically.

"Yes, Mr. Sommers already paid in full, and you're the registered recipient."

"Then I'll take it."

The clerk retrieved the rare original text from a locked cabinet and handed it over with both hands.

"Ms. Simmons, please confirm everything is correct."

Seraphina flipped to the title page, checked the volume number, and snapped it shut.

"Perfect."
