"The Sisyphus Bookstore."
"Let's go now."
Seraphina blinked in disbelief. "Right now?"
He spun his wheelchair around. "Christian shouldn't have gotten too far."
She grabbed the back of the chair. "You literally just left the hospital today."
"Which is why I'm riding in the car instead of driving it."
"Lucian."
He craned his neck back to look at her. "My Lady, I'm going with you to pick up your first research manual."
A profound wave of calm finally washed over her chest.
In the nursery, Little Bean let out a loud burp, his telepathic voice utterly thrilled.
"Daddy gets major points! Go get 'em, Mommy! I officially declare that this house is now run by two total workaholics!"
When Seraphina and Lucian arrived at The Sisyphus Bookstore, they ran into someone entirely unexpected right at the entrance.
The woman gasped in delight the second she saw him. "Lucian! What are you doing here?"
Lucian barely even looked at Melody, offering a glacial, "Hm."
The sheer indifference in his tone stung her, but Melody refused to back down so easily.
Plastering on a sweet smile, she hovered next to his wheelchair, acting as if Seraphina didn't even exist.
"As you know, I finally returned from my studies abroad, and I've been resting at home. I decided it's time to put my degree to good use, so I came out to buy some reference materials."
She rattled off her little speech, but Lucian kept his eyes fixed straight ahead, completely zoning her out.
Melody wetted her lips nervously. "So, what brings you out, Lucian?"
He finally graced her with a response. Without turning his head, he stated flatly, "I'm keeping my wife company to pick up her book."
He placed a brutal, deliberate emphasis on the word "wife."
Melody's smile cracked slightly. She scrambled to compose herself. "I see."
"What kind of book are you buying, Ms. Simmons?"
