Seraphina suddenly stopped pushing the wheelchair.
She didn't turn around, but she knew exactly who it was.
Lucian sat in the chair, obscured by the nearby hedges. From a distance, it looked like she was standing alone on the path.
The man quickly caught up to them. "Seraphina, it really is you. You're alright. Thank God."
Seraphina turned around.
Sebastian wore a hospital gown with a light gray coat draped over his shoulders. He looked much worse than the last time they had met.
He stared at her, unable to hide the relief in his eyes. "I heard you were in an accident. I tried asking around everywhere, but the Langfords kept everything locked down so tight I couldn't find out a thing."
Seraphina glanced at his hospital gown. "You're admitted?"
A flicker of hope lit up Sebastian's eyes. "My old stomach ulcer flared up again."
He forced a weak smile. "My stomach hasn't been right since you stopped making me that Medicinal Herb Broth."
Seraphina's expression turned icy. "Sebastian, if your stomach hurts, go see a gastroenterologist. Telling me is useless."
Sebastian choked on his words for a second. "Seraphina, there's no one else here. You don't have to be so harsh."
"Have I not made myself clear?"
"You never used to be like this."
"I was blind back then."
Sebastian's smile vanished entirely. "Do you really have to tear me down like this?"
"I'm just correcting you."
Seraphina gripped the handles of the wheelchair. "We used to date, which was why I made you that Medicinal Herb Broth. But I don't owe you a damn thing."
Sebastian swallowed hard. "That's not what I meant."
"Then drop it."
"Seraphina, I was just glad to see you're safe. I just wanted to talk."
"We have nothing to talk about."
Sebastian took a step closer. "I know I messed up, but people have regrets."
Seraphina met his gaze. "Your regrets are your own problem."
"And what about you?"
