Alexander’s POV
I stood at the foot of the staircase, waiting for Alicia to come downstairs so we could leave. I’d been waiting for almost an hour while she got ready for the event.
After glancing at my watch for what felt like the tenth time, I finally decided to go upstairs and check on her.
Just then...
Soft footsteps echoed from the staircase.
I instinctively looked up.
The moment I did...
I froze.
Alicia slowly descended the stairs, looking nothing short of breathtaking.
The elegant black gown hugged her slender figure perfectly before cascading gracefully to the floor with every step she took. It was simple, yet sophisticated, accentuating every beautiful curve without being overly extravagant.
Her soft brown curls had been swept into a neat, elegant bun, while a few loose strands framed her delicate face, making her appear effortlessly beautiful.
The subtle makeup only enhanced her already striking features. A pair of diamond earrings caught the warm light above, shimmering gently with every movement, while the matching necklace resting against her collarbone completed the look perfectly.
She looked refined...
Elegant...
And unbelievably beautiful.
For a long moment...
I simply stood there, unable to look away.
It felt as though the entire villa had fallen silent.
The only thing I could see...
Was my wife slowly walking toward me.
Our eyes met, and I watched heat immediately creep onto her cheeks beneath my gaze.
Without looking away, I held out my hand.
She reached me a moment later and slipped her hand into mine with a shy smile.
As she moved closer, the diamond necklace around her neck caught the light, sending tiny reflections across the room.
My gaze instinctively settled on it.
For a brief second...
I simply stared.
Then recognition dawned on me.
An indescribable warmth spread through my chest.
It was the necklace.
The very same diamond necklace I had given her two years ago... just before she asked me for a divorce.
When she left without taking any of the jewelry I’d bought for her, I’d convinced myself she simply didn’t like them.
Even so...
I could never bring myself to throw them away.
I kept every single piece, hoping that maybe one day she’d return.
After she came back, I’d secretly wished she would wear them again, but I never dared ask. Instead, I kept offering to buy her new ones.
Yet today...
She had chosen this one.
Not because I asked...
But because she wanted to.
In that moment, every lingering doubt in my heart quietly disappeared.
She really had forgiven me.
When she noticed where I was looking, her smile deepened.
She lightly touched the necklace.
"It’s very beautiful."
I shook my head with a smile.
"You made it beautiful."
She lowered her gaze shyly.
Unable to resist, I stepped closer and pressed a gentle kiss against her cheek.
"You look gorgeous, baby."
As expected, the blush on her face deepened.
I couldn’t help chuckling.
Taking her hand once more, I led her toward the front door.
"Sarah will stay with Maria and take good care of Aimy, so don’t worry."
I knew exactly what was on her mind.
Sarah was Mrs. Evelyn’s daughter. She had grown up serving the Blackwood family alongside her mother and had taken care of Nana for many years.
There was no one I’d trust more to help look after Aimy.
Outside, the convoy was already waiting.
I opened the passenger door of my Lamborghini and helped Alicia into her seat before walking around to the driver’s side.
Soon, the convoy slowly pulled away from the estate.
As I drove, I stole a glance at her.
Her fingers were tightly wrapped around her purse.
Without a word, I kept one hand on the steering wheel and reached over with the other, gently covering hers.
"You’re going to be okay," I said, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze.
She turned to me and offered a faint smile.
I knew she was nervous.
This wasn’t just another business event.
It was the first official event we would attend together as husband and wife.
Back then, when our marriage had been kept secret, Jane had always accompanied me to these occasions.
On the rare occasions Alicia attended, she had done so only as my adoptive sister.
But tonight...
For the very first time...
She would stand beside me openly.
Not as my sister.
