Beside her, Aunt Veronica squeezed my hand affectionately.
"And no matter what happens..."
"You’ll always have a home here."
"We’ll always be here for you."
Tears stung my eyes as I nodded.
"Thank you..."
"Thank you both for everything."
After countless hugs, blessings, and tearful goodbyes, Aimy and I finally boarded the plane.
As I settled into my seat by the window, I looked outside.
Anna...
Aunt Margaret...
Aunt Veronica...
Uncle Herbert.....
They all remained standing on the tarmac, waving until the very last moment.
My chest tightened.
Two years ago, I’d arrived in Rosewood Town with a broken heart, searching for a place where I could begin again.
This city had given me exactly that.
It had helped me heal.
It had given Aimy and me a family when we needed one most.
Now...
I was leaving behind everything I had built over the past two years.
Not because I was running away...
But because I was finally returning home.
As the plane slowly lifted into the sky, I silently prayed that I would never have to regret that decision...
When we arrived, Alexander was already waiting on the tarmac.
The moment Aimy spotted him through the cabin window, she practically jumped off the plane the instant we landed.
"Daddy!"
She threw herself into his arms, and he effortlessly caught her, a smile spreading across his face.
During the entire drive home, she excitedly told him everything that had happened while we were away.
Alexander listened patiently, occasionally asking questions or laughing at her animated storytelling.
Watching the two of them together brought an unconscious smile to my lips.
The next morning, after leaving Aimy with Maria, Alexander and I headed to Blackwood Dominion together.
As the car glided through the city, I felt his hand gently slip into mine.
"You do know it won’t be possible for you to simply return to your old position after being away for two years, right?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
I nodded.
"I’ll accept whatever the Board decides."
A faint smile appeared on his lips as he studied me.
"I really missed this."
"What?"
He intertwined our fingers.
"Waking up beside you."
"Having breakfast together."
"And going to work together."
I couldn’t help smiling.
"I suppose we’re finally back to our usual routine."
He chuckled.
"Not quite."
"We have one more little person waiting for us at home now."
I laughed softly.
"That’s true."
"I could never forget about her."
Resting my head lightly against his shoulder, I closed my eyes for a moment.
The rest of the journey passed in comfortable silence.
Soon, the familiar headquarters of Blackwood Dominion came into view.
It still looked exactly as I remembered.
Tall.
Elegant.
Standing proudly above the skyline of Velaridge City.
For just a moment, I found myself staring at it through the window.
This building had witnessed some of the happiest...
And some of the most painful moments of my life.
The convoy drove into the underground garage before coming to a smooth stop.
Alexander and I stepped out together and entered the private elevator.
The last time I’d stood here had been two years ago.
Back then...
Nana was still alive.
Everything had changed after that.
As the elevator ascended, countless memories surfaced in my mind.
I’d once considered never returning to this place.
But then I thought about Nana.
She had entrusted me with five percent of Blackwood Dominion’s shares.
She had believed in me.
Looking back now, I couldn’t help wondering if she’d already foreseen everything.
Perhaps this had always been her way of ensuring I would never truly leave the Blackwood family behind.
As the elevator neared the executive floor, I unconsciously bit my lower lip.
My nervousness must have shown because Alexander gently tightened his grip around my hand.
I turned toward him.
He smiled reassuringly.
I returned the smile.
The elevator doors slid open.
I instinctively tried to pull my hand free.
Instead...
His grip tightened.
"What are you doing?" I whispered.
He looked completely innocent.
"Holding my wife’s hand."
Alexander acknowledged them with a slight nod before gesturing for everyone to sit.
I quietly took the empty seat beside him.
The room soon fell silent.
Alexander glanced toward one of his secretary.
"Let’s begin."
The secretary stood and opened the folder before him.
"The first item on today’s agenda is the confirmation of Mrs. Alicia Sinclair’s return to Blackwood Dominion."
Every pair of eyes shifted toward me.
Although I’d expected this meeting, I still couldn’t stop my heart from pounding.
"Mrs. Alicia Sinclair served as Director of Éclat Beauty for two years before taking a leave of absence. During her tenure, Éclat Beauty became one of Blackwood Dominion’s fastest-growing subsidiaries, exceeding annual targets for two consecutive years."
A few directors nodded in agreement.
The secretary continued.
"During her two-year leave, Mrs. Alicia Sinclair joined Whitemore Industries, where she led the establishment of its textile brand and contributed significantly to the strategic partnership between Whitemore Industries and Blackwood Dominion."
I instinctively straightened in my chair.
"The Board has carefully reviewed Mrs. Sinclair’s achievements, leadership capabilities, and contributions to both Blackwood Dominion and its affiliated partners."
He paused before reading the next line.
"After unanimous deliberation, the Board of Directors has approved the appointment of Mrs. Alicia Sinclair as Executive Vice President of Consumer Brands."
For a brief moment...
I thought I’d heard wrong.
The room erupted into applause.
I slowly turned to Alexander.
He was already looking at me.
There wasn’t the slightest hint of surprise on his face.
Only quiet pride.
The secretary continued.
"Mrs. Blackwood will oversee all consumer-facing businesses under Blackwood Dominion, including É&B,M&F and M&E.
These brands consist of luxury skincare, cosmetics, personal care, and future consumer brand acquisitions."
"In addition, as stipulated in the late Chairwoman Roseline Blackwood’s will, Mrs. Alicia Blackwood officially assumes ownership of five percent of Blackwood Dominion’s shares effective immediately."
Another round of applause echoed through the room.
My fingers unconsciously tightened around the folder before me.
Five percent...
Even after signing the documents, hearing it announced so formally still felt unreal.
Alexander finally stood.
As Chairman, the room immediately became silent again.
"Blackwood Dominion has always rewarded capability, not favoritism."
His calm voice filled the conference room.
"Mrs. Alicia Sinclair earned this position long before today’s meeting."
He looked directly at me.
"I have every confidence that she will continue creating value for this company and its shareholders."
Then, for the first time since the meeting began...
He smiled.
"Congratulations, Executive Vice President Alicia."
