Mission: Revenge – The Heiress's Second Life novel Chapter 38

The sky was just beginning to lighten.

Since her morning self-study sessions started early, Clara always woke up an hour before Ethan.

She headed straight down to the kitchen to cook his noodles, just as she had promised the little punk.

She tied her hair back and slipped on an apron. The moment she stepped into the kitchen, Mr. Harrison immediately tried to usher her out. "Miss Clara, you only need to say the word if you're hungry. We have two chefs on staff who can whip up anything you desire, whether it's Western or domestic..."

Clara smiled warmly. "I promised Ethan I'd personally make him breakfast. Would you like to try some, Mr. Harrison?"

The butler looked at her with profound heartbreak. "Miss Clara, you're home now. You shouldn't have to do chores like this anymore. Please, let the chefs handle it."

Serena didn't know how to boil an egg. She was a quintessential, overly pampered heiress who had never lifted a finger in her life.

But Clara was entirely self-sufficient, effortlessly navigating a kitchen.

It was a glaring testament to the endless suffering she had endured during those six years in exile.

Clara simply rolled up her sleeves, brushed past him, and began washing vegetables, slicing tomatoes, and whisking eggs.

A little while later, she heard Jonathan's heavy footsteps on the stairs, so she quickly dropped another portion of noodles into the pot.

She arranged the three bowls on the dining table and asked Mr. Harrison to go wake Ethan up.

"Dad, come have some breakfast," Clara called out with a bright smile. "I made it myself. Tell me what you think."

Sitting before a perfectly cooked, mouthwatering breakfast, Jonathan felt a complicated knot of guilt tighten in his chest.

After banishing his eldest daughter to the countryside, he had made an effort to visit her once a year. However, several times she had been stuck at school, and they had missed each other completely.

He had paid the old woman hosting her a small fortune, assuming she would treat Clara well.

But Clara's sharp eyes had already caught the name flashing on the screen: *Jules's Homeroom Teacher*.

Clara smirked. "Vera, why aren't you answering? It looks like Jules's teacher is calling."

Cornered, Vera had no choice but to accept the call.

"Put it on speaker. Let's hear what the teacher has to say," Jonathan ordered gruffly.

He rarely involved himself in his children's daily lives and had never interacted with their teachers. He was genuinely curious to hear a report on their academic performance.

Vera's expression turned incredibly sour.

Even before the call connected, she knew exactly what was coming. It was undoubtedly going to be a lecture about Jules causing trouble and disrupting the class... She secretly hoped the boy would crash and burn, so she had zero intention of actually parenting him. But with Jonathan sitting right there, she had to play the role of the deeply concerned, loving mother.

"Mrs. Lambert, you absolutely must come to the school today," the teacher demanded, her voice vibrating with barely contained rage. "I know you parents are incredibly busy, and I've let it slide that you skip every single parent-teacher conference and ignore his disciplinary infractions... But I am not letting this go! This incident is incredibly severe. One of you needs to be in my office immediately!"
