Serena practiced all day, but she still couldn't find the emotional depth her aunt demanded.
Just as her frustration peaked, she received a call from Lillian Young.
"Serena, the more I think about it, the angrier I get!" Lillian fumed over the line. "I'm the heiress to the Young family! When have I ever been humiliated like this? She dared to lay a hand on me, and she's going to pay for it! If I hire some guys to beat Clara to a pulp, you won't be mad, right?"
"Lillian, don't do anything rash," Serena replied, her mind spinning quickly. "You and Clara already have a public feud. If she gets jumped right now, everyone will know you ordered it. If this gets back to your parents, it'll be a disaster for you."
Lillian gritted her teeth. "Then what am I supposed to do? I can't just swallow this insult! But I can't beat her in a fight either! I'm so pissed!"
Serena bit her lower lip.
She was furious too, carrying a bubbling rage for the past two days that she hadn't been able to unleash.
"How about this..." she suggested coldly. "Clara has four younger brothers. She cares about them a lot..."
"..."
By the time Clara got home, it was already past nine o'clock at night.
She went straight upstairs to find Ethan Lambert.
His room was completely empty.
Mr. Harrison stepped up behind her. "Young Mr. Ethan usually doesn't return until ten o'clock, Miss Clara. It's still a bit early."
Clara pulled out her phone and dialed his number. "Where are you? Did you finish your homework? Why aren't you home yet?"
"None of your business!"
Ethan immediately hung up on her.
Clara scoffed coldly.
She had explicitly warned the brat last night, but he had clearly ignored her.
Suddenly, a mechanical voice echoed in her mind.
[System Notification: New Mission Issued! Please protect your brother!]
Clara's expression instantly hardened.
Protect her brother?
"Pull over!"
Clara barked the order, throwing the door open and leaping out before the car had even fully stopped.
The driver didn't hesitate, jumping out to back her up.
The driver was built like a tank. The moment the beefy man appeared, the chasing teenagers froze, spun around, and sprinted in the opposite direction.
Ethan stood on the pavement, gasping for air.
In the dim glow of the streetlights, he watched a girl walking toward him. The hazy light spilled over her shoulders, making her look like a savior stepping out of a slow-motion movie scene.
Whenever he stayed out late in the past, no one had ever come looking for him.
He never expected that in his moment of absolute peril, his biological sister would descend from the heavens and terrify his attackers away without even throwing a punch.
He stood frozen in place, watching Clara approach.
But as she drew nearer, her expression only grew colder.
