In that instant.
Clara Lambert felt her hearing sharpen immensely.
To her shock, she could perfectly make out the hushed gossip of the students on the third and fourth floors.
"That transfer student is Serena Lambert's actual sister. She isn't as pretty as Serena, but she sure knows how to hook the guys."
"Chase Yardley and Zachary Montgomery, the two most elite guys in our school, were actually standing there talking to her. Who does she think she is?"
"I heard she's tough. Rumor has it she taught Lillian Young a brutal lesson. Lillian is always throwing the Young family's weight around to bully people, so she had it coming!"
"..."
She could even hear the teachers talking in the faculty office.
"The new transfer student in the Honors Class is seriously struggling. She hasn't even mastered freshman-level material."
"But she has an incredible work ethic. She's remarkably disciplined and attentive in class. If we put her through a three-month boot camp, she might just scrape by and get into a decent college."
"I'm drafting a personalized study plan for her tomorrow. A good student who actually wants to learn deserves to be nurtured."
"..."
Clara rubbed her ears.
This super-hearing ability was a bit too effective. She was picking up on a lot of things she wasn't supposed to hear...
Standing across from her, Zachary looked momentarily stunned.
Just moments ago, this girl had been glaring at him with a terrifying, icy hostility. Yet now, she wore a sickeningly sweet smile and was calling him handsome.
She even had the nerve to claim he was better looking than Chase.
"Clara, everyone in school knows I'm better looking than Zachary," Chase muttered under his breath. "You know what they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Don't tell me you've actually fallen for him?"
Clara smacked the back of his head. "For such a good-looking guy, you sure don't know when to shut up."
When she had reunited with Chase in her past life, Vera Lambert's schemes had already caused her to be completely blacklisted and socially ruined within their elite circles.
Back then, high society treated her like an absolute pariah. Mrs. Yardley kept her son on a tight leash, absolutely forbidding Chase from having any contact with her.
A girl suddenly hurried past him, shoving a box of expensive chocolates into his chest.
Blushing furiously, the girl stammered, "Zachary, you're so handsome. I've had a crush on you for a long time!"
Before he could reply, she turned and sprinted away.
Zachary's brow furrowed slightly.
Someone else calling him handsome. Yet somehow, it didn't give him that same jolt of electricity he felt when Clara said it...
The exhausting school day finally came to an end.
Clara packed her bag and headed toward the school gates. There was still an evening study hall scheduled, but she had requested the night off from Mr. Yates.
It was only the second day of her rebirth.
She wanted to take advantage of the light workload to go see her youngest brother.
Her oldest and second brothers were both in middle school and only a few years younger than her; she trusted they could take care of themselves.
