That was the only reason Jessica could enjoy such a comfortable life.
At home, Luke barely did anything anymore. Everything was Jessica’s job now. Even when a sauce bottle fell over, she would ask Jessica to put it back upright.
Even then, Olivia still constantly scolded Jessica for being a poisonous woman and brought up old grievances.
She called Jessica a slut, saying that if it were not for Jessica inserting herself into Hank and Liberty’s marriage, Liberty would not have asked for a divorce. Then, they would now be related to the richest family in Wiltspoon by marriage, and the benefits of which were unimaginable.
Hank would not have to be a ride-hailing driver, either, and possibly would have become a high-ranking executive at a large company long ago, earning a yearly income in the millions.
She even regularly badmouthed Jessica in front of Sonny.
Sonny listened, but did not do as his grandmother said.
To him, Jessica just had to take good care of his father. If his grandparents had any issues, she would take care of them too, allowing him not to worry about them.
It was much better than spending money to hire a caretaker, because at least Jessica, as part of the family, would be more attentive and not have ulterior motives.
Jessica had spent over a decade in prison and was only released early after several sentence reductions. She had long since come to terms with everything. As long as she still had a home and someone by her side, that was enough.
Sonny was fairly apathetic to her, but he would give her twenty thousand dollars of allowance every month, which was a lot for the average person.
She never would have dreamed that in her old age, she would end up being supported by her stepson.
Back then, it was precisely against him that she had committed her crime. The better Sonny treated her, the more guilty she felt, and the more she wanted to make it up to him.
Sonny saw that Hank and Jessica did not need his help, so he turned and walked out of the kitchen. Walking toward his grandparents, he sat down between them.
The elderly couple was smiling from ear to ear as they looked at him with expressions full of love.
Though Hank was not ugly, he was not as good-looking as his mother.
However, there was no need for Sonny to voice these thoughts.
Liberty remained distant from the Browns. She was already generous enough not to stop him from maintaining contact and visiting them.
Sonny had never thought of trying to reconcile Liberty and the Browns. It was his father and grandparents who had wronged his mother, after all.
Ever since he could remember, he knew how they treated him. Sonny was only willing to support Hank now because he had done his duty as a father and paid child support after the divorce.
Hank had contributed to raising Sonny, so Sonny would take care of him in his old age.
As for supporting his stepmother while he was at it, that was for his father’s sake.
