Married at First Sight (Serenity and Zachary) novel Chapter 5444

“We’re eating together as a family. It’s enough to just throw together a few simple dishes. It’s not like I’m picky.”

Sonny looked at Jessica, who felt a little awkward, then said, “Sorry to trouble you again, Jess.”

“Oh, it’s no trouble at all, no trouble. I have to buy fresh ingredients to cook every day anyway, and it’s just a couple of extra dishes, so it’s no trouble at all,” Jessica hurriedly said.

Ever since she had torn Chelsea a new one in Sonny’s defense, Sonny had become a little more amiable toward her.

This child was a forthright one and very sensible. It was all because Liberty had taught him well.

Sometimes, Jessica would think of the child she had lost. If she had successfully given birth and not lost the child while having to go to prison, the child would have been entrusted to Hank’s parents to care for. It was hard to say how they would have taught the child.

Even Hank could not raise a child well.

She sighed internally. She and her child simply were not written in the stars. At the time, she had already committed her crime, and even if she had not miscarried, she would still have to serve her sentence after the child was born. It would not be good for the child to have a mother in prison either.

It was good that the child left her, too, as the child could find a better family to be born into, better than having a mother in prison and a good-for-nothing father.

Besides grandparents who had poor discernment.

Before Liberty divorced Hank, they had Sonny. Even then, Luke and Olivia had not helped to take care of the child. Instead, they helped Chelsea raise her three children, and had even given her their retirement funds and all the allowance received from Hank.

Chelsea was simply too used to leeching off her parents, and even now, still wanted to come back and continue doing so. She constantly worried what little retirement funds her parents had left would go to Hank. She would, from time to time, come home and try to take advantage of them, wanting to get what little was left from her parents.

She became this way because her parents spoiled her and subsidized her until she was used to leeching off her parents and her selfish ways.

Now that she saw that Sonny was doing well and was extremely wealthy, she wanted to leech off him too. Even though she was unsuccessful, she still constantly tried her best to do so and wanted to do it through her parents.

Hank also ushered his son to sit in the living room to just wait for dinner.

For Hank to have such a successful son come back for dinner was plenty of consideration for him as the biological father, so how could he make his son help out?

“Sonny, come over and chat with me for a while. Jessica has the cooking under control, and your dad’s helping too.” Olivia called from the living room.

She just could not bear to see Jessica enjoying a peaceful life.

If it were not for Hank being the loyal sort and not being willing to divorce her, there was no way Jessica would have had a good life after getting out of prison. Even getting by would be a problem.

Jessica could not return to her parents’ home, and with a criminal record, it was hard to get a job. Plus, she was getting on in years.

It was just that Hank had not looked down on her and insisted on waiting for Jessica to get out of prison. Sonny was generous enough not to make a fuss about it, either, and gave so much money for their living expenses each month. Hank, despite his age, was still able to work as a ride-hailing driver and earn some money that way.
