Evan showed no anger after being slapped twice.
He caught Stella’s hand and examined it.
Her palm had turned red, revealing just how hard she had hit him.
“Does it hurt?” he asked.
Stella stared at him.
There had to be something seriously wrong with this man’s head.
“You hit me so hard that you hurt your own hand,” Evan said. “Do you feel any less angry now?”
Stella’s expression turned even colder.
Less angry?
Did he really believe everything that had happened between them could be reduced to her being angry?
And now that it was over, she was simply supposed to calm down?
She said nothing and continued glaring at him.
“Well, that look tells me you’re still furious,” Evan said. “Do you want to slap me a few more times?”
“Although your hand will hurt if you do.”
Stella had never seen this shameless side of him before.
Perhaps he had never needed to behave this way in the past.
Now he seemed determined to use every shameless trick he had.
When Stella refused to respond, Evan knew she did not want anything to do with him.
He suddenly lifted her over his shoulder.
“Let’s go. This place is unsettling. We’ll talk somewhere else.”
“You’re capable of being afraid?”
He had just forced himself on her in the middle of a cemetery.
She had assumed he had no respect for the dead whatsoever.
Now he was calling the place unsettling?
“I’m not afraid,” Evan replied. “I’m showing respect.”
“What could a man like you possibly respect?”
Evan drew in a sharp breath.
“That’s a harsh thing to say.”
Of course there were things he respected.
They had been married for years, yet she clearly still did not understand him well enough.
It did not matter.
They had the rest of their lives ahead of them.
He had plenty of time to let her get to know him properly.
