Let’s Divorce Mrs. Wright Is Done Playing Nice novel Chapter 1020

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Remi asked.

“You actually thought that was what I meant?”

“What else could you have meant?”

“Are you missing part of your brain?”

Why would Stella have been asking whether Amos was interested in her?

She might be guarded, but she was not narcissistic enough to assume every man she met would fall for her.

Remi hesitated.

“I think my brain works just fine.”

But she finally understood what Stella had actually been asking.

After taking a deep breath, she said, “What motive could Amos possibly have? He’s only worried about your safety.”

“Before Evan died, he specifically told Amos to keep you safe.”

A month ago, Stella had still trusted Felix and Aaron. Everyone knew how drastically that had changed.

“That’s all?” Stella asked.

He was merely trying to protect her?

If that was true, she might have to rethink her belief that loyalty disappeared once the person who inspired it was gone.

Remi nodded.

“That really is all.”

“Litt may be dead, but plenty of his loyal men are still out there.”

“They could be looking for revenge. If they find out everything happened because of you, you’ll be in serious danger.”

Litt had only just died.

His followers would still be furious and desperate for someone to blame.

At a time like this, Stella needed to remain hidden.

She said nothing.

“Amos really is only trying to keep you safe,” Remi insisted. “Don’t read too much into it.”

Stella did not respond.

She knelt beside the headstone and adjusted the flowers she had brought. Then she set down a bottle of Evan’s favorite whiskey beside them.

There were more flowers than usual today, along with several unopened bottles, almost as though she had no intention of returning after this visit.

Remi looked at everything she had brought and could not help commenting, “You still have feelings for Evan.”

“Yes,” Stella replied. “Enough to bring him flowers and his favorite whiskey one last time. That’s about it.”
