I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 80

The person who lent the fifty grand wasn't disappointed, but the leech who refused to pay it back was.

Hilarious, wasn't it?

She slipped the phone back into her pocket and returned to the booth. Bonnie had already polished off her entire plate, wiping her mouth until it was spotless.

Seeing Nora return, she didn't ask a single question. Instead, she scooped up the last slider and placed it on Nora's plate, her large eyes filled with anxious hope, terrified Nora was upset.

"You eat this one. It's so good."

Nora sat down, picked up her fork, and offered a soft, genuine smile. "Okay."

Back in the park, Bonnie went absolutely wild.

She rode the carousel three times, crashed into everyone on the bumper cars, and by the time they stumbled off the pirate ship, her pigtails had half-unraveled, the hair ties dangling uselessly at the ends.

Nora crouched on the sidewalk to fix her hair. Bonnie stood perfectly still, happily sucking on a lollipop as she mumbled around the stick, "I'm having the best day ever."

Nora wrapped the elastic tight and secured it. "I'm glad you're having fun."

At 2:00 PM, Nora checked her watch.

Arthur's flight landed at three, and it was a forty-minute drive to The Stratosphere. It was time to go.

She knelt to Bonnie's eye level. "Alright, kiddo, that's a wrap for today. I've got some work stuff to handle this afternoon."

Bonnie's face fell for a fraction of a second, but she had long since learned not to be a burden to adults. "Okay! Pinky promise you'll bring me back?"

Nora held out her hand and linked her pinky with the little girl's.

She dropped Bonnie off at the gates of the Harrison estate. Bonnie waved enthusiastically. "See you next time!"

Sitting in the back of the taxi, Nora looked out the rear window. Bonnie was still standing by the gate, watching the car pull away.

Seraphina was dressed in a stunning burgundy cocktail dress, her hair pinned up in an elegant twist that exposed the graceful line of her neck. Two pearl drop earrings swayed gently with her every step.

She leaned her weight against Finn's arm, laughing brightly at something he said. Finn was looking down at her, a devastatingly tender smile gracing his lips.

And then, Finn looked up.

The instant his eyes locked onto Nora, they narrowed. A cold, arrogant smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth as his suspicions were confirmed. Nora was here alone.

She still couldn't let go. She must have received the parting gift he sent her.

Beside him, Seraphina's face drained of color. Her fingers dug viciously into Finn's arm.

Why was Nora everywhere? She was like a ghost haunting their every move.

The Stratosphere was supposed to be their exclusive anniversary spot. Why the hell was Nora here? Did she find out about them?
