Nora let out a slow, steady exhale. "Alright. I'll go check on her myself later."
Over the next few hours, Nora and her team meticulously combed through Annabel's entire treatment protocol from start to finish.
By the time she finally walked out of the conference room, the sky beyond the windows had already turned dark. Only then did the reality of her postponed honeymoon crash back into her mind. She pulled out her phone and saw a text from Xander, sent two hours ago.
"I canceled the tickets."
Nora's heart skipped a beat. Was Xander angry?
She frowned softly. Before they had even gotten married, she had made it explicitly clear that she would never let anything compromise her work. If a medical emergency arose, she would drop everything to do her job.
If Xander was genuinely upset about this, she wasn't entirely sure what to say to him.
She typed a quick reply: "Okay. I just finished up here. We can talk when I get home."
When she walked through the front door, the house was quiet. Bonnie was already asleep. Nora quietly pushed open the door to her daughter's room and pressed a soft kiss to her cheek.
When she finally returned to the master bedroom, Xander was sitting on the edge of the bed. He looked up as she entered, offering no questions about her work and making no mention of the canceled honeymoon. He simply patted the mattress beside him. "Come sit."
Nora walked over, letting out a deep breath. Looking at his calm expression, she couldn't detect any anger, which only left her more uncertain.
