I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 425

Finnegan's expression froze for a fraction of a second. He let go, straightening up with a deep scowl, his tone reeking of pure entitlement.

"Of course it's her fault. If Seraphina hadn't deliberately interfered with us, if she hadn't driven a wedge between us, we would never have ended up like this. Do you have any idea how much she did behind my back?"

"She forged documents to frame you, spread vicious rumors, and even—"

"Enough!" Nora cut him off coldly.

The rest of Finnegan's words caught sharply in his throat.

Nora looked at him. The fiery anger in her eyes had mostly faded, replaced by a suffocating wave of pity. She found him genuinely pathetic.

After everything that had happened, he was still making excuses for his own actions.

"I don't care what Seraphina did. She was never the real problem. It was you, Finnegan. You were the one who chose to believe her over me. You were the one who waffled between the two of us, tearing our marriage apart piece by piece. Even if there hadn't been a Seraphina, there would have been someone else, because from start to finish, you never truly loved me."

Finnegan looked at her as if she had just accused him of the most heinous crime. "I don't love you? If I didn't love you, why would I have given up everything to be with you back then? Why would I be throwing it all away now just to get you back? Did you even consider my feelings before saying something so cruel?"

A profound sense of despair and exhaustion washed over Nora, wrapping around her like a suffocating blanket. "That wasn't love. When everyone else doubted me, you stood on their side and questioned me right along with them. You couldn't give me your unconditional trust. Every single time, you chose the path that hurt me the most, and then you convinced yourself it was to protect me. You didn't do any of that for me. You did it to make yourself feel better, to justify your selfish need to have your cake and eat it too."
