Across town, Finnegan had just seen the headlines. Watching the comment sections globally obliterate Nora while a live mob besieged the institute, he violently slammed his phone onto his desk. A crushing, suffocating panic clamped down on his chest.
This was not the outcome he wanted. He grabbed his coat, tore out of the office, and drove straight to Seraphina's apartment, leaning heavily on the doorbell.
Seraphina heard the frantic buzzing and rushed to the door. The moment she saw Finnegan standing there, her eyes lit up with predatory excitement.
"Finn, what brings you here so early?"
Finnegan shoved past her with a murderous scowl, storming into the living room. "Did you leak those photos?"
Seeing the unhinged rage on his face, Seraphina's stomach bottomed out. She instantly deployed her default defense mechanism—her eyes welled with pathetic, wobbling tears as she lunged to grab his jacket. "Let me explain! I only sent a few innocent pictures to a blogger! I just wanted to apply a tiny bit of social pressure. How was I supposed to know it would turn into a total witch hunt?"
Finnegan violently ripped his arm away, his expression twisting into pure, unadulterated disgust. "How were you supposed to know? Seraphina, you hired the writers. You bought the trending hashtags. You orchestrated the exact release time, didn't you?! You meticulously planned a public execution, and you stand there crying, telling me you just wanted to give her a little pressure?!"
Seraphina stumbled back in genuine shock, hot tears spilling down her cheeks. "I did all of this for you! What right does Nora have to treat you like garbage? You're suffocating under the weight of your family's expectations, and she's out there flaunting her new boyfriend! I just wanted to teach her a lesson!"
She spewed the lies deliberately. She knew Finnegan intimately; she knew that framing her viciousness as an act of desperate devotion always made him cave. He had never been able to stay mad when she played the martyr.
