Hearing his concession, Seraphina finally let out a hidden breath of relief, a deeply vicious glint flashing across her eyes.
She had to use this window of time to ensure that Finnegan and Nora had absolutely zero contact. She needed to get pregnant as fast as humanly possible to cement her unbreakable status within the Fletcher family. Once she had his baby, even if Finnegan eventually reclaimed his true identity, Nora would be so disgusted that she'd demand a divorce immediately.
"I'm just glad you understand. Take it slow, there's no need to rush anything."
Just then, the office doors were shoved open violently. Finnegan's assistant sprinted into the room in an absolute panic, his forehead slick with cold sweat from his desperate dash.
His voice was a frantic, breathless squeak. "Mr. Fletcher, bad news! Something terrible has happened!"
Finnegan shot him an icy glare. "Spit it out. What warrants bursting in here like a lunatic?"
The assistant nervously licked his lips before stammering, "Mr. Fletcher, The Westside Development Project has been completely halted across the board! Summit Crest Holdings refuses to disclose any details about who authorized the freeze. We've poured massive capital into the preliminary stages. If we can't unblock the project within three days, the company is looking at losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars!"
Finnegan's face instantly went ashen. Every lingering thought of trying to reconcile with Nora vanished into thin air. He abruptly shoved Seraphina aside and grabbed his suit jacket, storming toward the door. "Get the car ready! I need to handle this immediately!"
Panic churned violently in Finnegan's gut. How could this happen out of nowhere? Who was the phantom player pulling the strings behind the scenes? The moment he uncovered their identity, he was going to destroy them.
As he marched out of the building, he hastily pulled out his phone and dialed Nora's number.
The second the line connected, his tone was laced with raw anxiety. "Nora, I have to cancel our lunch. A massive corporate crisis just hit one of our projects, and I need to deal with it immediately. Once I have this sorted out, I'll schedule a proper time for us to discuss the engagement."
Nora actually felt a flicker of secret delight at the news, offering a cool, entirely apathetic response. "Understood."
Then, she hung up without another word. Even if Finnegan hadn't been hit by a corporate disaster, she never had any intention of showing up to that lunch.
