Nora Newman glanced at him but didn't respond. Clutching her documents, she turned on her heel and walked away.

She returned to her car and sat in the driver's seat for a long time without starting the engine, her emotions a tangled mess as she stared up at the Fletcher Group's towering headquarters.

She knew she shouldn't have any further ties to this man, but she had to meet Dr. Maxwell Reed. If she could impress the keynote speaker through this opportunity, she wouldn't need to rely on Finnegan's status anymore. Then, she could cut ties with him completely.

Nora drove back to The Vance Institute of Medical Science.

The weekend arrived in a flash. Finnegan's car pulled up to the Institute's entrance right on time, and as Nora finished the last of her paperwork and walked out, she spotted him leaning against the passenger door, talking on his phone.

Seeing her approach, Finnegan hastily ended the call. A warm smile spread across his face as he opened the passenger door for her.

Nora gave him a cool, expressionless glance, completely ignoring the open door. Instead, she walked around to the back and got in the rear seat.

Finnegan's hand froze in mid-air. He let out a soft chuckle, entirely unbothered by the rejection, casually shut the door, and returned to the driver's seat.

The car headed toward The Fletcher Manor. Along the way, Finnegan kept trying to strike up a conversation. "Is the Institute keeping you busy? How is your schedule looking lately? What about Cassie? Why didn't you bring her along?"

Nora kept her expression icy. "Cassie isn't around. I have no idea where she is."
