I Was His Wife, Then His Widow, Then No One's But My Own novel Chapter 294

She sat alone in her office, meticulously verifying every entry line by line. When Felix knocked and entered, she looked up and handed him the file Xander had given her.

Felix took it and flipped through the pages, his eyes widening with every second.

The expression on his face morphed from sheer shock into the blazing anger of someone who had been deeply betrayed. "Her entire identity is a lie?"

Nora nodded. "It's highly likely. It hasn't been officially verified yet, but I have someone looking into it discreetly."

Felix slammed the file onto the desk, his voice rising. "Then we confront her right now and report her directly to the board! Having someone with a fake resume on a project team is a massive security risk!"

Nora shook her head. "Let's not tip our hand just yet."

Felix stared at her in total confusion.

"She didn't come here unprepared," Nora explained. "If she managed to infiltrate a project of this scale, it means someone powerful paved the way for her. The evidence we have only proves her credentials are fake. But we still don't know what she's actually been doing inside the project, or what her ultimate goal is. If we move on her now, the worst that happens is she gets fired. But whoever is pulling the strings behind her will just hide deeper."

Felix fell silent for a moment, then pulled up a chair and sat down. "How do you want to play this?"

"We wait," Nora said. "Let her keep accessing whatever she's been accessing. But for every piece of data and every sample she touches, I need you to quietly make a separate backup. I want a complete paper trail."

Felix nodded in agreement.

The two went over their upcoming schedule one more time. As Felix headed out, he paused at the door.

He looked back at Nora, opening his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but ultimately left without another word.

During her lunch break, Nora drove to the hospital.

It was a picture of a doctor in a white coat holding hands with a little girl. Above their heads, the word 'Thank You' was written in colorful crayon.

Nora gently ruffled Annabel's hair. "This is beautiful, sweetie. But you don't need to thank me. It's just my job."

She gave Meredith a few routine medical instructions, then prepared to head back.

Just as she stepped out of the hospital room, her phone rang.

It was Finnegan again. Nora frowned, letting it ring for two seconds before answering. Her tone was ice cold.

"What do you want, Finnegan?"

Finnegan's anxious voice rushed through the speaker. "Nora, there's news about Finnegan! What I told you last time was true—he really might still be alive! I've found new evidence. You have to come see it. I want to show you right now."
